The property is an old farmhouse which has recently been completely renovated with modern facilities including central heating, but at the same time retaining (and in some cases restoring) the original characteristics of the vernacular building style. All the ceilings have oak beams, the ground floors are completely tiled and the upper floors are in most cases the original oak floorboards. The two large ground floor rooms have the original granite fireplaces. Outside is a courtyard garden with lawn, stone paved terrace and additional gravelled terrace for dining. A barbecue and adequate outdoor furniture is provided. The hamlet is situated in a beautiful mixed agricultural landscape dotted with mainly broadleaved woodlands which offers ample facilities for country walks or quiet roads for cycling. Chateauponsac offers a small supermarket and several restaurants as well as essential services such as bank, post office, pharmacy, bars and a superb rural museum.

There are local inland lake resorts with artificial beaches and sports facilities including tennis, handball, water sports, walking, off-road cycling, restaurants and barbecue facilities. The nearest of these is a very short drive away from the house.

Travel
Limoges airport is a 45 minute drive away. Flights arrive there from Stanstead, East Midlands, Liverpool and Southampton. Car hire is available at the airport. It is advisable to have the use of a car in order to get the best from a stay in the house. The northern Channel ports (Calais, Dunkirk, Boulogne) are approximately 400 to 450 miles distant. The western ports (St. malo, Dieppe, Le Havre) are approximately 300 to 350 miles distant.
Distances
Chateauponsac is 3 kilometres away and has all essential facilities. Limoges (the main city of the region) is 40 kilometres distant and has everything one would expect of a major commercial centre. It is the home of the Limoges porcelaine industry and has various outlets and a museum dedicated to the industry. There are cinemas and a theatre and innumerable restaurants. For spectacular countryside, visit the nearby Monts d'Ambazac where one can enjoy wonderful walking/cycling facilities.
Further details
As previously stated, all day to day shopping can be obtained in Chateauponsac, there is also an outdoor swimming pool. Large supermarkets abound in Limoges and the enormous DIY outlets could be of interest also. During the Second World War the region was home to an extensive resistance movement and there is a museum dedicated to this in Limoges. Nearby also is the town of Oradour sur Glane which was destroyed by the German army in 1944, possibly as a reprisal for Resistance activity. The ruined town has been preserved as a memorial and there is now a visitor centre devoted to the happenings of that era.
