Chateau Coubillou has origins in the 12 century with many interesting features. The inner courtyard is accessible through a coach arch and the apartments and suites by stone stairways. All the rooms have lovely views through shuttered windows. Our emphasis is on comfort, cleanliness and we have many facilities to offer our guests. Including a 15m saltwater pool, Jacuzzi spa and fitness suite (with qualified instructors). A range of holistic therapies (including hot stones) are offered. There are many outdoor seating areas and terraces, so you can always find a private spot. We are 40 mins picturesque drive from the Med and its long sandy beaches. The local area is quite diverse, with the renowned vineyards, historical villages, mountains, caves, gorges, lakes and rivers. The people here are warm and welcoming. The food and local produce is second to none. There are an abundance of local markets within easy reach, restaurants, shops and bars only a few minutes walk away.

Changeover day
Changeover day is Saturday for apartments. Suites can be booked on a daily basis. Accommodation is available from 4pm on the day of arrival and should be vacated by 10.30am on the day of departure. Thank you.

There is a separate lounge with satellite TV, DVD surround sound and views over the terraces and mountains beyond. A large open plan, fully fitted kitchen/dining room with wooden worktops, cooker, hob, microwave, kettle, toaster, health grill, fridge/freezer, washing machine, with shuttered windows to courtyard gardens and original marble floor tiles. The gorgeous bathroom has a freestanding slipper bath and separate rain/column type shower fitting. All the fittings are traditional style. The very large shuttered windows look out towards the vineyards and mountains beyond. Breakfast is provided in the breakfast room with its original fireplace and double doors onto the garden terraces for alfresco dining. La Forge (1 Bedroom, Sleeps up to 4)

| Two person studio apartment, new for 2008, of 50 sq.m. It is located in the old blacksmiths shop with uninterrupted views of surrounding vineyards and mountains beyond and has a rustic feel with exposed stone walls and beams. Comprising of an open kitchen, diner and lounge (with double bed). Separate bathroom with double ended freestanding roll top bath and shower over, dual flush toilet and table top sink unit. There is a separate bedroom located within a large wine cave which is attached to the old Forge this has two full size single beds inside and makes the studio very flexible for a family of four. The kitchen is fully equipped with hob, oven, microwave, toaster, kettle, fridge/freezer washing machine and all utensils. The lounge area has satellite T.V and DVD. | |
Notes on accommodation
Children are welcome and cots can be provided on request when placing a booking with us. Sorry but pets cannot be catered for at the moment.
Accessibility
We regret that, because of the nature of the building and the fact that we are restricted in development because the chateau is listed (historical interest), at the moment the accommodation is unsuitable for people with mobility problems. However, the La Forge (studio apartment) is on the ground floor and only has two steps up to it making it ideal for people who can't manage too many steps.
Outside
The chateau is set amongst 3 acres of protected parkland and walled gardens with ancient trees and Victorian orangery. We have ample on site parking and lighting. Our guests can enjoy the 15m saltwater swimming pool, or take a relaxing Jacuzzi spa or sauna. There is a fitness/weight training suite with instructors available and a treatment room with holistic treatments including massage and hot basalt stone therapy. There are many outdoor terraces and eating areas, BBQ, chairs and tables so that you can soak up the Mediterranean sunshine that we enjoy, in this region, 300 days of the year!
Coast/Beach
Approximately 40 mins drive away is the Med with its endless stretches of golden beaches and warm waters. Many seaside towns are within easy reach. Closer still are the local river beaches with various activities available.
Golf
Only 2 mins walk away is the very picturesque Lamalou golf course. There is a tourist information office in the clubhouse & a very popular restaurant. There are other golf courses within 40 mins drive.
Travel
There are 3 major airports within easy reach, these are Nimes, Carcassonne and Montpellier which is the nearest (1 hour's drive away). All are served by budget airlines with regular flights from many UK airports. There is also a TGV link to Beziers which is only a 20 mins drive away. All airports and TGV stations have hire car facilities. A car is recommended.
Distances
The spa town of Lamalou-les-Bains, famous for its healing waters which are still used to this day, is just a stone's throw away. Roquebrun which is built into the face of the rock with river beaches below is a 15 mins drive. Bezier's fortified ancient city, can be reached in 20 mins by car. Lac Salagou is about 10 mins by car, with it's strange red landscape. There are many historical towns and villages with beautiful ancient architecture such as Pezenas, 20 mins by car.
Further details
There are many supermarkets and shops nearby (Lamalou alone has 5 bakeries). The restaurants are many and varied; traditional restaurants, pizzas, kebabs, ice cream and crepe bars, coffee bars, tea rooms, Chinese restaurants and take aways, live music bars and English style pubs. There are banks in Lamalou also chemists, butchers, gift shops and newsagents.
The leisure activities available include golf, walking, caving, climbing, mountain biking, pony trekking, swimming, canoeing, fishing, bird watching and wine tasting at the many local wine producing domaines and chateaux. You may also take relaxing treatments at the thermal spa and try the waters yourself. The Etang de Bagnas, near Sete, with its nature reserve is home to flamingos and white horses and is well worth a visit.
Booking notes
A deposit of £100/150 euros per apartment per week is to be paid by cheque in euros or sterling, on booking with us. For the suites a deposit of £30/40 euros per room per night (for 4 nights or more in the suites a deposit of £100/150 euros per room).
