Located in beautiful rural France close to the picturesque village of Brux, just a few minutes from the N10, within easy reach of Poitiers TGV station and many local Airports and only 4 hours from the ports of Caen and St Malo, La Vieille Fromagerie Luxury Gite Complex & Bed and Breakfast is set in the heart of tranquil French countryside. We offer all our guests the option of a home cooked 4 course evening meal complete with aperitifs and wine, perfect for families after a long days activities or for parents of young children the opportunity to wine and dine alone (baby monitors are available). We have a large, heated swimming pool complete with sunloungers and parasols for your relaxation and a children’s play area. Our location is ideal for walkers, cyclists and birdwatchers as well as those looking for more adventurous and active pursuits. La Vieille Fromagerie operates a no-smoking policy in all buildings and the pool area and does not accept pets.

Notes on prices
Gite Special offer: £50 discount off additional weeks booked in any gite.
B&B: Single night stays in July/August - 75 euros per room. Evening meal - 18 Euros per adult, 12 Euros per child under 12.
Changeover day
Gites are booked on a weekly basis from Saturday to Saturday. Arrival time is not before 4pm and departure is by 10am at the latest. B&B check-in after 4pm and check-out by 10am each day.

La Vieille Laiterie (1 Bedroom, Sleeps 2/4)

La Vieille Laiterie has a large open plan living area. The fully fitted and equipped kitchen comes with dishwasher, washing machine, cooker and microwave oven. The dining area has a table and 4 chairs. The lounge area has comfortable seating, including a double sofabed*, as well as satellite TV, DVD and HiFi. Upstairs there is a family bedroom with original beams and a luxurious bathroom including double-ended bath, corner shower and twin handbasins. The bedroom has a double bed and a set of bunk beds* suitable for children. The light and airy living area looks out onto the private patio area (equipped with furniture and BBQ) and to the gardens and swimming pool beyond. *This gite accommodates and is equipped for up to a maximum of 4 guests by using either the bunk beds or the sofabed in addition to the double bed. |

Upstairs there are two spacious en-suite bedrooms (one double, one twin) with exposed stonework and original beams. La Vieille Fromagerie B&B

Our farmhouse hosts our B&B with two bedrooms full of French charm and original features. We have a spacious double room with sole use of the master bathroom including a power shower and corner bath and a comfortable and bright twin bedroom with fully tiled en-suite shower room. Both rooms are centrally heated and fully equipped including a TV/DVD/CD player, tea/coffee making facilities and a comfortable seating area. Hairdryers and complimentary toiletries are also provided. Your continental breakfast is served in our farmhouse dining room with fresh bread and pastries alongside a selection of our home made jams as well as cereals, yoghurts and fresh fruit. Evening Meals are available - this is a home cooked four course meal, including fresh produce from our own garden, together with coffee and wine. Guests in the B&B are invited to use the swimming pool and other facilities after 4p.m.. |

Notes on accommodation
We provide all bed linen and bathroom towels but we would ask that you bring your own pool/beach towels. We have a library with a selection of board games, books, DVDs, CDs and videos.
In addition we can provide a cot in any of the gites or rooms for a small charge.
Outside
Each of the gites has a small, private patio/garden area equipped with garden furniture and BBQ.
The shared 10m x 5m swimming pool is fenced and alarmed to comply with French safety regulations and is equipped with comfortable sunloungers, tables and parasols.
There is also a children's play area (including wooden swings and slide, sand pit and wendy house) as well as our extensive grounds that we encourage our guests to make use of. There is a range of giant garden games (Jenga, Connect 4) and sports equipment (basketball, football, badminton etc) for the enjoyment of all our guests.
Coast/Beach
We are just over an hour's drive from the Atlantic Coast around La Rochelle. In the local area there are rivers and lakes with man made beaches through the summer months.
Golf
There are all types of courses within Poitou Charentes. For those who want to put in a bit of extra practice, we have a golf driving net available at La Vieille Fromagerie. A selection of local courses and details follow:

Golf Club de Niort - Municipal 18 hole golf course close to Romagne town centre (79), and adjacent to the racetrack, 4 practice holes. Tel: 05 49 09 01 41. Approx 50 minutes drive.
Golf Club de l'Hirondelle - 18 holes, 5346 m, Par 70, slope 139. Located 4 kms south of Angouleme. It covers an area of 35 hectares in St.Martin Woods. Tel: 05 45 61 16 94. Approx 45 minutes drive.

Birdwatching:
This region of the Vienne is an area of lower rainfall than is usual in the UK. The warmer climate produces a variety of flora, fauna and birds of the region. While you will see many of the same birds found in many rural areas of Britain, you will certainly also find others never, or rarely, seen there.
Regularly seen at different times of the year are;
Buzzard, Red Kite, Hen Harrier, Barn Owl, Tawny Owl,
Stone Curlew, Quail, Golden Plover, Turtle Dove, Cuckoo, Hoopoe, Nightingale, Stonechat, Wheatear, Fieldfare, Redwing, Nuthatch, Serin, Hawfinch, Brambling, Short-toed Treecreeper, Golden Oriole, Cirl Bunting, Ortolan Bunting, Siskin, Melodious Warbler, Lesser Whitethroat and Pied Flycatcher.
Travel
We are well located for road, rail and air links.
The N10 is only five minutes away, Poitiers TGV station and airport are half an hours drive and La Rochelle, Limoges and Tours airports are also easily accessible. We do provide a pickup service from Poitiers (price upon request).
The ports of Caen and St Malo are about 4 hours drive from La Vieille Fromagerie.
To make the most of your stay in this area, a car is required.
Distances
We are located on the edge of the village of Brux where there is a shop, bar/restaurant, museum and 11th Century church a 10 minute walk away.
The market towns of Chaunay, Couhe and Civray are all less than a 15 minute drive.
The city of Poitiers is half an hours drive, with Futuroscope only 10 minutes further.
Further details
The area is well served with shops (including supermarkets), bars, restaurants and banks.
There are many historical and other attractions within easy reach, including Futuroscope, La Vallee des Singes (primate sanctuary) and the 100 churches of Poitiers.
For the more energetic there are numerous activities including canoeing/kayaking and horse riding.
Booking notes
Gite bookings are carried out using the booking form on our website (see the link below). A 25% non-returnable deposit is required at the time of booking and the balance to be paid no later than 8 weeks before the start of your holiday. A security deposit of £200 is payable with the balance of your holiday payment. B&B bookings can be made through the website. A non-returnable deposit will be required for bookings of multiple rooms and for stays of longer than 2 nights.
