Just a few minutes walk from restaurants, bars, bakers, pharmacy, market and abbey. Just under an hours drive to La Rochelle (alternative airport) on the Atlantic coast with its wonderful fish restaurants and the exclusive Ile de Re. Poitier airport 40 mins drive to house (Ryanair from Stansted).

The Atlantic coast with its famous sailing resort of La Rochelle and the magical Ile de Re are only an hour’s drive away. Numerous sandy beaches along this coast with their own micro climate, second only to the Cote D'Azur for the number of sunshine hours per year.

Nearest airport is Poitier approx 40 mins drive to house or la Rochelle airport 1 hours drive. We normally drive using Speed ferries Dover to Boulogne crossing, about 6 hours drive. Or option sail to Le Havre then approx 4 hour drive.
Distances
La Rochelle/Ile de Re 1 hour drive. Cognac (guided distillery tours) 1 hour 15 mins drive. Marais Poitivin (green Venice) 45 mins drive (can hire a boat). Futurescope 45 min drive. Angouleme 1 hour 15 mins drive. La Vallee des Singes 45 mins drive (very popular monkey sanctuary). Verruyes 15 mins drive - man made lake and beach and large children's play area.

Market every Saturday morning in St Maixent - 2 mins walk. Fabulous creperie 'La Marmite'- just a short walk from your door. Midsummers Day ‘Fete de Music’ in St Maixent. 2nd Week July ‘Enfant de monde’ - children’s folk festival from around the world held throughout the town. 3rd weekend September at Angouleme ‘circuit de rampart’ featuring vintage car racing. Tumulus de Bougon- prehistoric burial mound and museum - 15 mins drive. Sanxay- Gallo Roman site - 20 mins drive.
