Le Lauron has been beautifully restored to create a wonderful family home. The South facing house stands in 4 acres of meadows terraces and gardens enjoying superb views of the valley below and the surrounding mountains. The garden is stocked with hundreds of rose, oleander lavender and rosemary bushes; cherries, figs, plums, apples and pears all grow near the house. There is a stream running close to the house into the meadow below which also contains a tennis court. One of the terraces has a boule pitch. The large 14-metre swimming pool is on the same level as, but separate from the house. As it is used as a family home it is not just another anonymous holiday villa but a comfortably furnished home full of paintings and antiques. One of the sitting rooms has a log fire and the house has central heating for cooler months.

Notes on accommodation
The accommodation is particularly suitable for families with small children. In addition to the swimming pool which can be enclosed (to comply with AFNOR laws) there is an extra large shallow end, and 2 cots, a high chair, a play pen can be provided. There is a trampoline with a net on one of the terraces.
For the adults there is boule, croquet and an impressive library of books mainly in English but also in French and German. For the musical there is the piano and for the sporty the tennis court and trampoline.
Outside
Leading off the kitchen is a superb vine and wisteria covered pergola which shelters a large granite table around which meals are usually eaten in fine weather and from which the wonderful scenery can be enjoyed. A beautiful old fig tree outside the house provides further shade and delicious figs in season. Herbs are also grown near the house close to the kitchen. The large 14m swimming pool has an extra long shallow end that is particularly suitable for children learning to swim. The swimming pool can be enclosed (to comply with AFNOR laws). There is a stream running beside the house and through the meadow below, as well as a water reserve at the end of the drive so that supervision of small children will still be necessary. There are plenty of poolside sun loungers, two further separate outside dining areas, and a large parasol also available. There is a boule and croquet set, and the house has some tennis and badminton racquets that could certainly be used in an emergency!

Further details
Bargemon, 500 metres above sea level, is one of the prettiest and least spoiled villages in the area; it is never as crowded or as trippery as towns and villages on or near the coast. Life revolves around the ‘Place’ (village square), where, if you sit with your coffee or Pastis, you will get a kaleidoscope of life in Provence. Bargemon retains its original 12th Century gates and fortifications. It is notable for its many fountains and shaded squares, and has several excellent Provencal restaurants. Bargemon has shops for all everyday needs; 2 boulangeries, a small supermarket, an excellent butcher, a greengrocers, a hairdresser's, a bank, and a chemist. There is also a small weekly market. The nearest town is Draguignan, about 15 km to the west where a bustling and attractive market is held twice a week. There is also a number of supermarkets in or near to Draguignan.
Fishing and boating at Lac de St. Cassien (28km), riding, windsurfing and hang-gliding are all within easy reach, as is magnificent walking country. For the really energetic, a Grande Randonee along the base of the Gorge du Verdon (Europe's largest) or, for those not so energetic, a drive along its spectacular rim is highly recommended. St Tropez and the Mediterranean, as well as local golf courses including an excellent championship course at La Motte (15km) are all within 1 hour’s drive. In winter, skiing is possible in the Southern Alps, (Isola 2000: 2 hrs drive, or Greolieres: 45 mins). For music lovers, there are plenty of summer concerts (usually chamber music or recitals) in nearby churches: Mass with Gregorian plainsong on Sunday mornings at the Abbey de Thoronet; Opera at Aix-en Provence, Orange and Nice; or jazz at Nice and the nearby villages of Seillans and Montferrat. However, past experience shows that despite the best laid plans to make excursions, most of our guests arrive only to find they prefer to stay put at Le Lauron.
