"Words can't describe the overwhelming beauty of this paradise-like place..." (entry in our guest book). Mas de la Picolette is a beautifully-proportioned converted mas (farmhouse) of two adjacent buildings, built in the 1920s. The property sleeps up to 10 adults + 2 children and a baby in 6 bedrooms and has 3 bathrooms, spacious living/dining areas and a large kitchen. But it's the garden that make the property such a special place for happy holidays with several acres of lawns, shrubs and trees, bordered by the little river, the Réal Martin, and an additional Mill Stream, giving that glorious relaxing sound of running water at all times of day or night. The large pool (15 metres long) is next to the fully fitted Summer Kitchen ....no one strays far from here we find! Mas de la Picolette is ideal for large family gatherings, several families or groups of friends.

Notes on accommodation
The Main House and the Studio Apartment are immediately adjacent to each other and are only hired out as one unit. Electricity is included in the rental price except for in the heating season. The Mas is a great place for children because the garden is so wonderful but guests should be aware that there is the little river at the bottom of the garden and the Mill Stream through the middle of the garden. As we live on site (in a self contained flat - the large garden, pool, vege garden etc need continuous attention to maintain their good condition), we can offer other services such as babysitting, cooking, shopping, driving: otherwise you won't see us!
Accessibility
The Main House has a downstairs double bedroom and bathroom, but there are three steps up to the front door. The other downstairs (twin) room has one step down to it. The garden is pretty flat but there is one step down to the pool area / Summer Kitchen. We do think it is suitable for wheelchair users, particularly if a bit of help with the few steps is available.
Outside
We have a beautiful large garden with space for cricket, rounders, charging around! Our huge pool (15 metres long - unusually big for a private house) is in the middle of the garden and the Summer Kitchen right by it. The Summer Kitchen is fully equipped with fridge/freezer, dishwasher, hob and sink, crockery and cutlery. Outside is the large BBQ and table and chairs on the shady patio seating 12 or more. There is a variety of garden furniture + new table tennis table, badminton, boules etc. We have a wondeful vegetable garden and guests are welcome to help themselves!
Coast/Beach
There are some large, unspoiled, sandy beaches in our area of Provence, quite different to other areas on the Cote d'Azur. We can drive to the beaches near Le Lavandou in 45 minutes and St Tropez in an hour. The windsurfing and sailing beaches at Hyeres are about 30 mins away. Beaches to the west, near Bandol, are also worth exploring as a day trip, as are the calanques of Cassis.
Golf
"The best course I've played on anywhere in the world" was the comment of one keen golfer guest after playing at Barbaroux, about 30 minutes drive away. Details can be obtained from us. There are two other excellent courses, each within about 45 minutes drive.
Skiing
The nearest skiing is about 1 1/2 hours drive away and easily accessible for a day trip.
Special interest holidays
Picolette has been very popular as a "special birthday" destination eg. for your 50th, why not invite 4 other couples to join you and chill out together in the sunshine and peaceful surroundings. Cheaper and so much more memorable than a big party! Out of the main season we will consider bookings for a long weekend. We also arrange painting, french, cooking, wine appreciation and yoga / reflexology weeks - contact us for more information.
Travel
Most guests fly from the UK to Nice (EasyJet, BMI, BA), or Marseilles (EasyJet, BA) each about 1 hour 10 minutes by hire car. RyanAir fly to Toulon Hyeres from Stansted, about 25 minutes away. Alternatively take the Eurostar/TGV to Avignon or Toulon and hire a car; put your own car on the train from Calais to Avignon; or drive the whole way. A car at Picolette is essential.
Distances
We are 4 kms from Pignans, a small village with shops and a Thursday market. Aix en Provence and northern Provence (the Luberon, Gorge du Verdun etc) are about 1 1/2 hours drive (all times dependent on the seasonal traffic) so we are a great base if you want to explore this beautiful area. You'll find a market in one of the neighbouring villages every day of the week. Visit St Tropez on market day by boat from St Maxime - about 45 mins away - and avoid the horrendous traffic.
Further details
Pignans is a "living" village, with 2 banks, a post office, 2 restaurants, several small bars, 4 bakeries, a small supermarket, tennis courts, a bouleadrome - and 16 fountains! A larger supermarket is 10 minutes away and a huge hypermarket about 20 minutes. The lovely old town of Hyeres is about 25 minutes. Many other unspoilt villages are around, offering restaurants, fishing, river swimming etc.
Booking notes
On requesting and securing a booking, a 50% deposit is required. The balance is required 8 weeks before the start of the holiday. We also require a fully refundable security deposit.
