"Les Tonneaux" is situated on the edge of the pretty village of Aumes. It is perfect for nature lovers and those in search of some peace, being surrounded by vines and the unspoilt garrigue. The gites are light and airy, but remain cool - a blessing in the heat of the summer! Electric heating and fans are provided. Being situated on opposite sides of the building, the gites do not overlook one another and each has a terrace for al fresco dining with bar-be-cues, set in the pretty garden.

Changeover day
In High Season (July/August) changeover day is Saturday. Arrival after 4pm and departure 10am. The rest of the year we are much more flexible.

Notes on accommodation
Ideal for families as the garden is completely enclosed. Baby cot and babysitting available. Easy access as accommodation is on ground floor.
Accessibility
Whilst not specifically designed for people with mobility problems, a wheelchair user has stayed in both of our gites and found them to be comfortable and practical.
Outside
The front garden is communal and equipped with childrens' toys - including swing, sandpit and paddling pool, deck chairs and barbecues. Each gite has its own private terrace with dining furniture. They do not overlook one another.
Coast/Beach
15 minutes by car are 2 pretty sandy beaches on the Etang de Thau. For the ultimate holiday relaxation have a drink or meal in one of the restaurants right on the beach or around the marina.20 minutes down the road is 11 km of uncluttered beach with beautiful clear sea, stretching from Marseilhan to Sete. 30 minutes by car takes you to Cap d'Agde and Valras Plage - bustling holiday resorts with water sports etc..
Golf
Golf is becoming increasingly popular in France and the Herault has several excellent courses. La Grand Motte - a championship course is 1 hour away, StThomas, Cap d'Agde and Lamalou les Bains are all very well designed and within 30 minutes.
Travel
We are well served by most of the budget airlines. Ryan Air flies from Stansted to Montpellier (50 mins by car), Nimes, Carcassonne and Perpignan (all within 90 mins) and from Luton to Nimes and East Midlands to Carcassonne and Liverpool to Nimes.British Airways flies from Gatwick to Montpellier. FlyBe goes from Birmingham to Carcassonne. New routes are being added all the time. Eurostar goes from London Waterloo to Montpellier. Car hire is necessary. The port of Calais is 800 miles away.
Distances
Aumes is 4 km from the historic town of Pezenas. Within 10 km are the port of Meze, Besilles country and leisure Park and attractive local villages - Montagnac,Castlenau de Guers,Pinet and St Pargoire.Less than 25km takes you to Bouzigues,famous for its oysters, the Lac de Salagou near the old mill town,Clermont l'Herault and Beziers with its wide range of shops and beautiful Friday flower market. The city of Montpellier - capital of the Herault is 50km and the Haut Languedoc National Park 40km.
Further details
The restaurants in the area are renowned for their seafood. For wine lovers the area is a paradise of beautifully located vineyards. All local commerce can be found in Montagnac (5 minutes by car) and Aumes itself has a small grocers shop and is served by a variety of mobile tradesmen including baker,butcher,fishmonger,pizza and hairdresser! Montpellier is an attractive and elegant city with several museums, cinemas, an ice rink, planetarium, lots of chic shops and of course the famous Place de la Comedie for people watching and street entertainment. The Haut Languedoc Park has many walks and impressive views. Try the Gorges d'Heric,Roquebrun and the mountains of l'Espinouse. The internationally important reserve of the Camargue is 80 km away. Pink Flamingoes, white horses and the black bulls make an unforgettable experience.
Booking notes
A security deposit of 150 euros or 100 pounds will secure your booking. This is returned on departure. The rent for the accomodation is payable 6 weeks before arrival and can be made in euros or pounds. A discount of up to 30 percent on bookings of 2 weeks or more. Long term lets from 600 euros/400 pounds per month. We regret no animals are accpeted and our accomodation is no smoking.

The Billings - Very sad to be leaving after a wonderful week...Far too much to see and do in one week.Meze - beautiful beach with trees for shade,well worth seeing at night, especially if jousting at the port...The Garthwaites - accomodation superb, a credit to the hosts, who were great,one to recommend to the discerning traveller.The Coopers - a beautiful, peaceful place, but plenty to do...bathrooms superb...we will be back!
