The nearest port would be Cherbourg which can be reached from Poole and Portsmouth via Brittany Ferries. LD Lines operate out of Portsmouth to Le Havre. From Cherbourg it is about 25 minutes. Being in the countryside a car is essential.
You can fly from southampton to Cherbourg - flights are seasonal so worth checking times etc.

The town of St Sauveur is only 2 miles away and has all the amenities eg bank, supermarket, shops and restaurants. Bricquebec is 5 miles away and again has everything. Valognes which is about 7 miles away also has everything and has a very good market on Friday mornings.
The big market in Cherbourg is on a Thursday.
