Bourg de Mat reflects the spirit of the Ariège - warm, welcoming and full of character. Graham and Christine look forward to welcoming you to their bed and breakfast, and helping you to enjoy the many attractions of the area. Bourg de Mat is a beautifully situated country house, styled and furnished in a typical French manner, but with all modern comforts. Exposed beams, walnut doors, polished floorboards, wood-burning stoves and chimneys. You can enjoy all manner of outdoor sports nearby, including countless hiking possibilities right from the doorstep. Or just relax in our garden. The house offers plenty of privacy but not isolated. Graham and Christine are avid rock climbers, walkers and cyclists and can give you all the advice you need on where to wander! If you are interested in the Tour de France get in touch, stage 11 (16 July) passes just a few metres from our door to a finish in nearby Foix or join Graham as he trains for the Etape.

Notes on prices
For single occupancy of any room, subtract €5 from the prices above. It is also possible to accommodate 3 people in bedroom 1 (double and single beds) at €55/night. 'Table d'hôtes' meals are available on request, €20 per person including aperitif, three courses, wine and coffee.

Notes on accommodation
Bourg de Mat is very well exposed to the sun and situated at 520m altitude in the foothills of the Pyrenees. Because the river Arget winds through the bottom of the Barguillere valley right in front of our house, you can always hear the distant murmur of the river. The 500m elevation means that the nights are always nice and cool (below 20 celsius) even during the heatwaves that scorch other parts of the country. Because the house is built with 2 ft. thick walls of natural stone, even at the hottest moments of the day the house stays nice and cool inside. You have access to a garage to store bicycles securely.
Accessibility
Unfortunately, as the house is set into a hillside access for those with mobility problems and wheelchair users is not easy.
Outside
There is 3000 sq.m. of garden/field surrounding the house and adjacent barn. There are 2 terraces, equipped with chairs and tables and a BBQ. The top floor of the barn, accessible from the garden, provides bad weather accommodation. The barn also has facilities to dry and store your outdoor equipment. The community pool is just 25m away.

Mountain hiking, biking and climbing are amongst the biggest attractions the region has to offer. Both novice hikers and experienced "randonneurs" are served more than well in the surrounding mountains. There is a Paraglide school in Foix. Whitewater canoeing and rafting excursions are available. Horse riding is also very good in the area.
Additionally many traces of the medieval Cathar religion and many caves - some of which with prehistoric paintings- provide great excursions. So do many typical French markets in different surrounding towns. The nearby town of Brassac has a very nice Roman church from the 11th century.
