In the unspoilt and picturesque Venise Verte, the newly converted gites enjoy the prettiest of locations in land flanked by woodlands and criss-crossed by green carpeted waterways and benefit from the warm and sunny micro climate of the region. Vendee's famous golden beaches are 30mins away. The three terraced cottages are set in their own meadow flanked by woodlands and riverlets. Le Chevreuil is set at the end of the main house with double doors leading to a patio and private garden edged by one of the area's many waterways. The 10x5 m Roman style heated swimming pool can be floodlit at night. Excellent location for cycling with a network of cycle tracks, fishing and bird watching. Golf course at La Rochelle 35 mins away. Facilities include bikes, a boat for fishing, table tennis, darts, badminton, boules. All gites have DVD facilities and a selection of DVDs and books is available. The village of Nalliers is 2km away and has a modern Spar, banks, chemist, bars and restaurant.

Changeover day
Changeover day is Saturday during the busy season. More flexibility is available out of season. Arrivals should be from 4pm - 8pm (later times on agreement with owners) and departure by 10am.

Notes on accommodation
The terraced cottages have under floor heating which is charged at cost and Le Chevreuil has modern radiators. All the gites do have waterways or canals at the bottom of the garden and so toddlers need to be supervised. The swimming pool has a security fence and is easily placed for observing children.
Outside
Each gite has its own private garden, patio and BBQ. The patios are equipped with tables and chairs and a parasol. The gardens lead down to the river where you can relax and fish. At the front of each terraced gite there is a further patio area with loungers. The 10x5m heated swimming pool is shared and can be floodlit at night. It has roman style steps down into the pool and the terraced area has a selection of loungers, tables, chairs and parasols.
Golf
The area has an excellent selection of golf courses with nine of them between 30 mins and 90 mins away. The nearest is Golf de la Pree: 18 hole public course near La Rochelle 30 mins away. Situated on the coast with superb view of the Atlantic and the island of Ile de Re. Then Golf de la Domangere is approximately 10km south of La Roche-sur-Yon, an 18 hole 6480 metre course which is about 45 mins away. The other courses are: Golf de Port Bourgenay at Talmont St Hilaire, Golf Club Niortais at Niort, Golf de Trousse-Chemise at Les Portes-en-Re, Golf des Olonnes at Olonne-sur-Mer, Golf des Fontenelles at L'Aiguillon-sur-Vie, Le Golf de Cholet at Cholet and Golf Louis Rouyer-Guillet near Saintes.

About the owner
Paddy and Harry Tyrrell came to the Vendee from Buckinghamshire. We own and run our 4 gites and live on the property. Harry is addicted to squash, which he plays 3 times a week, while Paddy is attempting to write a fantasy novel.
We both enjoy socialising, and benefiting from the pleasure of French food and wine. We love this tranquil spot every bit as much today as when we arrived here eight years ago.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We thought the area was special for a variety of reasons. The property we selected and its lands are beautiful, with meadows, woods and canals. The local French people were friendly and supportive from the very start and we have easily made new friends here. The area has its own micro climate and is the second sunniest part of France and although we are a very tranquil spot, there are a host of places to visit in the vicinity. It is easy to get to from England, with 1hr 10 min flights from London to La Rochelle (40) mins away). Other major airports, like Nantes or Poitiers are an hour or so away. There is also a good link from the Eurotunnel to La Rochelle railway station and there are a selection of different ports in driving distance.
Unique benefits of the property
It is the most tranquil setting in the Vendee with a beautiful 10x5 Roman style swimming pool, surrounded by woods and meadows and criss-crossed by waterways.
There are great places to visit nearby, such as the Atlantic coast, La Rochelle, Ile de Re, the forest of Mervant and the Green Venice area.
We have lots of facilities for guests, such as bikes, table tennis, darts, badminton, boules, fishing, a boat to take on the canal and even a rowing machine for those who don't like the water.
