Further details
Le Maubec is well situated for visiting the many interesting and pretty towns and villages in the area, including the “bastide” (formally walled) towns of Duras with its magnificent castle/chateau and Eymet with its attractive square and remains of a fortified gateway, Soumensac with its beautiful old buildings and Knights Templar church, Allemans du Dropt with the outstanding frescoes in the church. Also Monteton, a hilltop village with a great view across the valley and La Sauvetat du Dropt with its fine church, old buildings and connections with the Templars of Soumensac. The bastide towns of Miramont de Guyenne, Monsegur, Castillones, Issigeac and Monpazier are a short drive away and well worth visiting.
A little further afield is the historic town of Bergerac – narrow streets and old buildings with several museums and galleries. The town is also an excellent venue for shopping.
Canoes and Kayaks can be hired at nearby Allemans du Dropt for a trip up the river, and there are many rambling routes in the lovely surrounding countryside.
There are guided river trips on the Rivers Dordogne and Lot and also a barge trip through the locks of the Canal des Deux Mers (Canal du Midi) from near Marmande.
There are a number of good quality golf courses nearby and other activities include horse-riding and trekking, quad biking, karting and hot-air ballooning.
For fishermen, the well stocked River Dropt is a treat with a variety of species including large Carp, Catfish, Bream, Roach, Zander, & Pike. The river is just a short walk across our meadow and fishing is free. There also some excellent fishing lakes in the area.
