Notes on accommodation
There are electric heaters available when needed and the option of a log fire in the living room area (wood burning stove). The Studio was created as an artist's workshop and availability of natural light was a key factor in its design.
Outside
There is a patio area with table and chairs outside and a garden to the rear with a lawned area. A portable Bar- b- Q is available and sunloungers. Parking space is available adjoining the Studio.
Coast/Beach
Both sides of the Cotentin peninsula are lined with very quiet beaches. On the west side, (about 20 min drive) which is opposite Jersey, are numerous bathing places including St Germain, Barneville/ Carteret and Le Rozel. Travelling north the landscape changes and becomes more rugged with coves and inlets around the area known as 'La Hague'. There are a string of fishing villages and tiny hamlets along the coast, with the occasional chateau and sub-tropical gardens open to the public.
Golf
There are several Golf Courses in the area and the nearest is at St Jean de la Riviere where a nine hole course is situated next to the beach (20 min drive).
Special interest holidays
Art and Craft courses are held at La Bergerie two or three times a year, including water colours and pottery. The owner's garden is open to the public twice a year as part of the french equilavent to the National Gardens Scheme. A course in gardening and plant propagation is planned for next year (2007).
Travel
The nearest Channel Port is Cherbourg which also has a small airport. (30 min) Valognes is the nearest railway station on the Paris to Cherbourg line (10 min) but there are no buses operating in the area. Taxis are available in St Sauveur le Vicomte nearby.
Distances
St Sauveur le Vicomte is the nearest small town with shops and supermarkets. It's about 3 kilometres from the property. It has an Abbey, Castle, Museum and indoor pool all open to the public. Valognes, a larger town know as the Versailles of Normandy, is about 9 kilometres away. Bricquebec, another historic town, is a bit further.
Further details
Bayeux and Mont St Michel are within an hour and a half to two hours drive. There are several restaurants nearby and many on the coast which serve excellent local seafood (at St Vaast la Hougue for example) Horse riding and canoeing are just two of the leisure activities available locally, and there are miles and miles of walkways and coastal paths.
Booking notes
A deposit of 25% is requested when booking, the balance to be paid 4 weeks before arrival.
Guest comments
"Charming cottage. Very restful holiday. Loved the garden. Can't believe how unspoilt the beaches are!"
Mr and Mrs MacLeod, Stockport.
"We couldn't believe that places like this still exist. It would have been turned into a leisure complex in the U K! Thank goodness you have preserved it for people like us to enjoy. We love The Studio.
