Located midway between Brantome and Angouleme, this delightful farmhouse property consists of two separate cottages and has been modernised and refurbished, whilst maintaining its rustic character. It is situated on the edge of a tiny hamlet with no passing traffic, in pleasant rolling countryside. Apart from the pool area (now fenced-in) there are several patio areas, with barbecues. A stone outbuilding houses a games room, including table tennis, snooker/pool, darts and table football; there is plenty of space to play petanque/boules outside. and a swing (with seesaw) for the smaller children. In a separate shed is a range of bicycles for you to roam the surrounding areas.

| Kitchen is well-equipped with all the usual appliances, including a dishwasher, washing machine, gas cooker, microwave etc. The (downstairs) bathroom has a shower. Upstairs the first bedroom has double bed and a single that opens out to a double; the second bedroom has one double bed. Notes on accommodation
Both cottages have some heating for off-peak periods, consisting of gas bottle heaters and oil-filled electric radiators. The Petit has a wood-burning stove as well, making late autumn or late winter stays a possibility.
Accessibility
Not very suitable for disabled persons - various steps and gravel paths.
Outside
The swimming pool is approx 8m x 4.5m, shared between the two cottages (it is now fenced all round) with solar heating panels and an overnight cover to retain the heat. The garden is pleasantly landscaped, with various different gravel, grass and paved areas for relaxing and looking over the neighbouring fields.
Coast/Beach
There are rivers and lakes for swimming in the area; the sea is at least 100km away and therefore a bit far for a day trip.
Golf
Cognac or Perigueux (both approx 1 hour's drive).
Travel
If driving, Caen, St.Malo or Le Havre are six hours away. The nearest airports are at Bergerac (1 1/2 hrs), Poitiers (1hr 40mins), Limoges 2hrs and Bordeaux 2hrs. Angouleme train station, with 2 or 3 hire car companies, is half an hour's drive.
Distances
Brantome is 30km, Mareuil-sur-Belle and Villebois-Lavalette about 10km each.
Further details
La Rochebeaucourt has two bars but no shops just now, so it is a 15 mins drive to Mareuil or Villebois (which both have chateaux worth seeing). There are several good restaurants within 15 minutes' drive. Brantome is well worth visiting; the canoeing there is also good. Nearby there are caves at Villars and a short drive away the chateaux at Bourdeilles and Puyguilhem. The picturesque village of Aubeterre has an underground church; there is an even larger one at St Emilion to the south, about one hour's drive.
