Guest comments
'We had a fabulous week. Le Hamel is a lovely gite, the location was ideal, the views are fantastic and we thought it was very well equipped and comfortable. We are aiming to re-visit Normandy at some stage and would certainly consider staying at Le Hamel again. The weather was great.' Mr M

'Many thanks indeed. We had a lovely holiday, very relaxing and peaceful. We particularly enjoyed watching the wildlife in the garden and the kittens from next door's barn! Far too many pastries, crepes and fruit tarts consumed but thoroughly enjoyed! Thanks again'. Mrs G

'I also wanted to let you know that we have found the personal service that you have given us to be excellent. Should we decide to return to Normandy in the future we will be in touch and we shall certainly recommend you to our friends and family. Many Thanks.' Mrs S

'Two teenage lads even appreciated the setting and that says something. Once again many thanks for a very enjoyable stay.' Mrs S

Owner profile

A walk along a beach on the west coast, Normandy

About the owner
I'm a 40-something owner of a niche-market training company, a bit of a workaholic, and not very good at organising holidays to unknown destinations. A few years ago I decided that stress-free holidays are vital, and the solution was to look for a house I could buy and let out, but use when it was empty. On what was supposed to be an investigative trip to Normandy in February 2006 (I first saw it in the snow), I fell in love with Le Hamel, and became it's proud owner that Summer.

Year purchased: 2006

Why the owner chose a home in this location
This quiet, unspoilt corner of Normandy has become a very special place for me. I come here for peace and tranquillity, wonderful walking, lovely shops (patisserie and the nearby chocolate factory!). It seems that everyone who has stayed here feels the same way, judging from the comments I receive and the fact that they return!

Unique benefits of the property
It's an easy drive from the ferries at Caen, Cherbourg and St Malo (about an hour), Le Havre (about 2 hours) and not too bad from Calais (4hours) if you prefer the tunnel. There is plenty to do in the area. If you want activity, its good for walking, cycling, river sports, riding etc. The Normandy Beaches are not too far away, and the main towns in the area are interesting. Otherwise you can sit in the garden, enjoy the views and watch the buzzards circling over the valley and various other wildlife! If it's cold, then snuggle up in front of the wood burner and a bottle of regional pear brandy instead and a box of chocolate from the local chocolate factory.
