Our gite and B&B is described perfectly as a house nearly in town and nearly in the countryside! Sol y Sombra & our gite are only 15mn from Bordeaux town centre in a little town with all amenities: shops, supermarket, restaurants; yet it is also minutes away from countryside and our local Pessac Leognan vinyeards. The house has been renovated to give our guests a "feel at home" atmosphere. Here, you have access to a sunny front room/sitting room with TV and wifi access. You can also sit and relax on our front terrace and front garden, take a walk in the lovely animal park situated opposite with its lake, play area, picnic tables(free entrance). You can use many of the cycle path at your leisure, right on our doorstep! Easily accessible either by car, or by bus and tram, you can visit the lovely city of Bordeaux with its magnificent architecture and its museums. Further afield, about 40mn away, you can stroll on the beaches, climb the highest sand dune in Europe, go wine tasting.

Notes on prices
Please note that we operate special prices for longer stays. Also, if you book BOTH rooms as a family, we will have a special rate of €70 per night for both rooms, and the same will apply if you book BOTH rooms for a longer stayin the B&B.
Same applies for longer stays at our Gite.
Also reduced prices for last minute bookings when available!
Changeover day
No specific change over day for B & B. Gite: sat to sat preferred. we would prefer for guests to arrive between 10am & midday or after 6pm for the B & B. For the gite, arrival after 2pm and leaving time 10am. Thank you for your understanding!

West Country Cottage Gite

West Country Cottage Gite is situated at the back of our house. It has been very well designed to include: terrace and private garden, outdoor table and chairs and BBQ. Kitchen/Diner comprising full oven and hob, fridge freezer, washing machine, full cooking equipment, iron and ironing board, hoover, table and chairs, settee, plenty of storage space, TV, radio/CD and air conditionning. A double room en suite and a twin room en suite(beds in L shape position one slightly above the other). Plenty of storage space in the bedrooms. Bedlinen and towels can be provided at a charge of €30 per week. We are very sorry but we cannot accept pets. West Country Cottage Gite is NON SMOKING. |

Notes on accommodation
Please note that we can provide a cot for your small child and can accommodate children under the age of 1 for free and between 1 and 6 for an extra €5 per child in the B & B. In the Gite, there is room for a cot.
We are terribly sorry, but our property is not suitable for wheelchair access as the bedrooms are on the first floor and there are stairs to the front terrace. Thank you for your understanding.
Outside
Our guests are welcome to use the front terrace and our well shaded front garden where they will find garden table and chairs. Ample car parking at the front of the house.
Coast/Beach
Sol y Sombra and West Country Gite are situated 60km from Arcachon and the Atlantic coast with its many sany beaches and also lovely local lakes. By car, it should take about 40mn.
Golf
For golf-fans on every level this region is truly paradise: Sol y Sombra is only 20mn away from the Pessac Golf Club or the Golf du Lac, only 40mn away, we have the Gujan Mestras Golf Club: that’s enough to enjoy a Golf Break at Sol y Sombra! Le golf d’Arcachon and le Golf de Lacanau are only a little further. Each course is different, which makes it a challenge!
Stay with us and enjoy playing at the different courses: either in the pine forest or on the coast!
At Sol y Sombra, you can expect great value:
First night is free for the group leader (minimum 5 people).
Complimentary welcome drinks on arrival.
We organise your golf days for you for a small fee, saving you time and sometimes disappointment during busy periods without prior booking. We can organize transport if required.
An evening meal can also be provided upon request by prior arrangement (15 euros per person for a 3 course meal, wine and coffee included).

Days Out to Places of Interest - Provide you with maps & packed lunch.
Travel
We are only 15mn away from Bordeaux airport.
Airport Pick up and Drop off: 20 Euros return trip per party
We can also arrange your car hire for you upon request: we pick you up, take you to our local rental agent and on your departure, we return the car and take you back to the airport.
However, please NOTE a car isn't essential here if you are staying for a week, you can use local transport for Bordeaux, the local train for Arcachon, as your host will take you to the local station.
Distances
We re within walking distance of our village town centre, 15mn from Bordeaux town centre, 60km from Arcachon, 45mn from the famous St Emilion vineyards and only 8mn from the nearest vineyards and chateaux!
Further details
Banks, small supermarkets, shops are readily available within walking distance and so are restaurants.
Many activities are readily available: local indoor/outdoor swimming pool, poney riding, cycling, golf, tennis, and much more. A little further, but only 30mn away, you can hire canoes to discover our rivers!

Booking notes
Bookings for the B&B are taken for a minimum of 2 days in the winter months and preferably 3 days in the summer months. We will always confirm in writing via email! We request a 50% deposit and the remainder payable upon arrival. You can either pay by english cheque, or bank transfer for your deposit, for the remainder we accept English cheques or cash. Thank you.
For the Gîte, as well as 50% deposit, we take €100 for breakage and €30 for cleaning these are refunded at the end of your stay.
