Full sun or cool shade? You decide

Le Gaillon is totally private and so peaceful, you will be able to forget the hustle and bustle of life and just enjoy being totally by yourselves with nobody else around. Inspected and recommended by Alastair Sawday in the 2006 edition of the 'Special Places to Stay - French Holiday Homes' guide, Le Gaillon is totally private, with outstanding views over beautiful countryside. Inside, it’s very comfortable as it is our well-loved holiday home (much tidier than our main home though!) and it has been furnished to a high standard with a mix of antique furniture, comfortable sofas, big rugs and original stone floors. We do everything we can to ensure that you will have a fantastic holiday.

Notes on accommodation
Children: Please note that although we welcome guests of all ages, there are a couple of points which parents of very young children should be aware of: there are no stairgates (due to the layout of the staircase it has been impossible to install one), the house has a shower but no bath tub (although we do have a baby bath for very young babies), and there are no cupboard locks in the kitchen. We want you to be able to relax when you come here and this may prove difficult if you have very young active children…

Accessibility
Much as we would like to make our house accessible to everyone, it is important to point out that it was originally built over 200 years ago and it has not been possible to adapt it for the needs of severely disabled visitors. There are 5 old stone steps up to the front door, and once within the house, although there is a bedroom and shower room on the ground floor, there are 2 steps down into the bathroom, and it is not wheelchair accessible. Please see our website for full details.

Outside
Large enclosed garden (3000 sq.m.). Table tennis, table football, barbecue, boules etc.

Coast/Beach
35 minutes drive to the glorious Normandy coast at Dieppe: the "Cote d’Albatre" - rugged, uncrowded, and full of French charm with beautifully clean sand and pebble beaches below white chalk cliffs.

Golf
There are a number of golf courses within easy reach, making Le Gaillon an excellent base for golfing breaks. In fact Normandy is rated among the top ten most desirable golfing locations in the world!
St-Saens - This course is incredibly varied; you will experience parkland, moorland and water holes here. As with most French courses, you will find it difficult to believe how such a great course can be so empty! Has a magnificent chateau clubhouse where you can enjoy an excellent reasonably priced lunch or dinner.
Etretat – perched at the top of the cliffs, the golf course is in a setting of unique and rare beauty. When the wind blows, you may find it tough, but whatever your score may be, it will be a memorable, magic experience.
Champ de Bataille - Arguably Normandy’s finest, and quickly gaining the reputation of one of the most beautiful golf courses in France. Gentle opening and finishing holes, but 16 of the most challenging and scenic golf holes in between!

Travel
2 hour's drive from Calais/Boulogne, 35 minutes drive from Dieppe, 60 minutes drive from Paris Charles de Gaulle airport.
Use of car is essential.

*Special ferry fares for our UK guests
Due to an arrangement with Norfolkline Ferries, we can now offer our guests fully flexible return ferry fares from Dover for the special fare of just £38 return. Please ask at time of booking.

Distances
1.5km from village, 10km from nearest town (Forges-les-Eaux). This delightful spa town has pretty lakes and woodland walks, a smart Casino (very popular with Parisians as it is only 70 miles from Paris and open every night until 5am), the luxury Forges Hotel with its health spa (daily membership is available for the gym, pool, sauna and various thalassotherapy seaweed treatments), fishing, tennis, and an indoor/outdoor pool, as well as a selection of restaurants, bars and a weekly market.

Booking notes
£200/€250 holding deposit required to secure the booking, full payment due 8 weeks before start of rental. We don't expect there will be any damage or breakages but just in case of unforeseen events, your holding deposit will be held as a security deposit, and will be returned within 14 days of departure, provided everything is left in a satisfactory condition. Please see our website for full booking conditions.

Guest comments
Tony, Angela, May and John, North Somerset 29/04/2006:
"It has been a very peaceful stay in this delightful farmhouse. If you need to get away from the hustle and bustle of life, this is certainly the ideal place to stay. We would thoroughly recommend it to our friends... We visited "the beaches", "the Somme", Paris, Monet's garden - all in a week!"
"A beautiful position - the only sounds we have heard have been the birds and sometimes the cows. We have seen deer, a red squirrel and a hare and its baby! A lovely cottage, which was spotless on our arrival - very homely - loved the fires, very cosy. Beds lovely and comfortable".

Chris, Rebecca and Zac, Wandsworth, London 19/04/2006:
"We have been regular visitors to the Pays de Bray for a number of years - this is by a country mile the best place we have stayed to date. Thank you for a very enjoyable Easter break - back soon!."
