Le Logis de Bresdon is situated in Vinerville Bas, Bresdon a small hamlet at the eastern most tip of the Charente Maritime Department, 70 mins from La Rochelle on the Atlantic Coast and 30 minutes from the beautiful city of Cognac. Your country cottage: The gite is set in the grounds of an elegant 1850’s aristocratic family home, formerly owned by Cognac producers. The 7 acres of gardens are yours to explore: A formal walled garden, scented roses, irises and cypress trees. An organic fruit orchard – cherry, plum, fig, apple, nectarines and walnuts.

Not suited for disabled as there are steps. Swimming pool and jacuzzi are shared with b&b guests. Heating extra.
Outside
Private patio and garden. Step out from the gite through large French Windows onto your own private, spacious terrace and enjoy stunning, undisturbed views across the meadowland and pastures. Your terrace is equipped with hardwood table and chairs, parasol, sun loungers and a large barbecue. Terracotta pots brim with hot-coloured geraniums and begonias.
Coast/Beach
St Georges de Didonne south of Royan is a delightful beach. Also try out St Palais sur Mer. All have their own charms. La Palmyre (90 mins by car) Situated between Royan and La Rochelle, Zoo de la Palmyre has over 1600 'residents' including Polar Bears, Gorillas, Siberian Tigers, Rhinoceroses and Elephants and is a great day out. La Palmyre also boasts one of the largest and less crowded beaches in the area. Chatelaillon Plage (60 mins by car).

Where is Bresdon? Bresdon is located in the Charente Maritime region of south-west France. The nearest major town, Cognac, is 30 min to the south, La Rochelle is just over an hour’s drive west and Bordeaux is an hour and a half south. The area is served well by low-cost and schedule airlines. 4 airports are within 1.5 hours of the house: Poitiers, La Rochelle, Limoges and Bordeaux. The nearest port is Saint Malo (from Portsmouth on Brittany ferries).
Distances
Be seduced by the hundreds of acres of sunflowers and vineyards in an area distinguished as France’s second sunniest. Explore the plethora of hamlets and villages – treasures of historical heritage. Look out for those famous Saintonge arches. Discover the secrets of cognac distillation and savour the local amber nectar – Pineau! World-renowned Cognac, St. Jean d’Angely, Saintes and Aulnay (home to the most important Romanesque church in the south west) are all within easy reach.

There is a boulangerie, butcher and small general store a mile and a half away. Bars, restaurants, supermarkets, pharmacies and banks all within a ten minute drive. Local bike hire. Diner in the manor house by arrangement.

About the owner
My husband, Chris, and I live in France. We run the business together, although Chris is a freelance cameraman so is sometimes away filming in England. I used to run a restaurant and we both love entertaining.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We spent five years looking for the perfect house and location and the minute we saw Le Logis de Bresdon, it was love at first sight. Despite its position in a sleepy hamlet, the historic towns of Cognac, Angouleme and Saintes are within a 30 minute drive. The beautiful sandy beaches of the Atlantic coast and La Rochelle are just over an hour's drive away.
Unique benefits of the property
The unique features of our gite are the location and comfort. The only sound you hear is birdsong or the occasional tractor. Everyone comments on how well equipped the gite is and how comfortable the beds are. There are plenty of restaurants within a short drive and it is also possible to have dinner in the manor house. As far as possible we cook with vegetables and fruit from the garden and locally sourced organic ingredients.
