Notes on accommodation
The entrance is on the first floor of the building, so there's a flight of stairs. Bedrooms 2 and 3 are upstairs. There's a mezzanine floor and Alpine architecture so there are sloping roofs (see the photographs), and a large balcony, but these shouldn't cause difficulties. Many families have stayed, including some with very young children and some with grandparents, and everyone seems to have been happy with the accommodation.

Outside
Large, sunny balcony suitable for eating outdoors or sunbathing, with access from the living area and from Bedroom 1. It's to the rear of the building and quite private (the village is quite quiet anyway). House next to us but we see the mountain tops above it and we have an unobstructed view of Mt de Charbon. Close to all the village amenities including supermarket, bank, Brasserie El Kemao and Bar de Quatre Chemins etc.

Coast/Beach
Safe swimming in the clear fresh water of Lac d'Annecy, with supervision during the peak summer months and children's areas at several beaches around the lake. The grassy beach at Doussard/Bout du Lac is less than 5 minutes by car, and access to the beach and parking are both free (2008). Use the link at 'booking and further information' to see a photo of Doussard's beach on the 'details' page of our own web site. (Some of the other beaches around the lake charge for access).

Golf
Résidence les Gentianes is half way between spectacular golf courses at Golf du lac d'Annecy (tel + 33 4 50 60 12 89) and the 9 / 18-hole courses at Golf de Giez (golfdegiez.com), near the Tour de France route in 2004 and with views of Mont Blanc and Lac d'Annecy. Each is about ten minutes away.

Skiing
Thônes is a charming market town 30 minutes to the east, with excellent value restaurants and bars around its town square and with speciality shops. The winter resort of La Clusaz is only 10-15 minutes further, with spectacular views and one of its cable cars leading to a summer luge. Other ski resorts including Les Saisies and Megève are reachable. The Winter Olympic centre at Albertville is 25 minutes to the south. Chamonix is around an hour by motorway, leading to the Mont Blanc Tunnel into Italy, so you can have lunch in Italy and be home for dinner. L’Aigue du Midi is a spectacular platform including a shop and restaurant near the summit of Mont Blanc, accessible from Chamonix by cable car. The highest point in Europe that's accessible without having to climb! Geneva, with its fashionable shopping and jet de l’eau on Lac Leman, is about an hour from Annecy. On another day, you can have lunch in Geneva or in one of the resorts along Lac Leman, and (again) be home in time for dinner

Travel
Nearest airports are Geneva to the north with flights all year, and Grenoble, Chambery and Lyons to the south-west. Geneva-Annecy is 45 minutes to an hour (depending on the time of day) and Doussard a 25 minutes picturesque drive along the lake. Grenoble is a smaller airport and therefore a quicker getaway after landing and about 1 hour 45 minutes by Autoroute via Albertville. Driving time from Calais is about 8 hours, on autoroutes until about 40 minutes from Annecy.

Booking notes
Book provisionally by phone and/or email. 25% rental deposit secures the booking subject to the balance being paid 8 weeks before date of arrival. Then a damages deposit (held on file) prompts delivery of the keys (so you arrive when it's convenient for you, and you don't need to find neighbours etc!) Assuming all is well, afterwards, I will return your damages deposit uncashed. Bookings Saturday-Saturday (flexible off-peak). Arrival from 1600; departure about 10:00 to allow for cleaning.
