'Bel Ombrage' is located on the outskirts of the charming medieval town of Le Dorat. Arranged on two floors surrounded by an attractively landscaped garden. Guest bedrooms and breakfast/dining room are located on the first floor, which has its own entrance, reached via a stairway leading from the gardens to the sunny terrace, while our own accommodation is on the ground floor. The house is of comparatively recent construction, and thus boasts no particular points of historical interest - however, it is a charming, comfortable and convenient spot from which to base your explorations of this lovely region of France.

All our rooms have tea/coffee-making facilities, a hairdryer, a mini-fridge stocked with a selection of complimentary soft drinks and wine, and an iron and ironing board. You will find in your dressing table drawer an extension lead which allows you to connect UK plugs to the French electric sockets, for the charging of mobile phones, etc. All en-suites have a shaver point and an extractor. The Elgar bathroom has a radiator, and its toilet a separate extractor, while the Bantock and Holbrooke en-suites have electric heaters/towel rails. Our rooms are decorated in a light, airy and contemporary style, and each bedroom features one or 2 original paintings by a local artist. In addition to the included continental breakfast, we also offer a range of options for lunch and dinner, should you require it. See our web site for detailed information.
Outside
Our dining room opens out onto a sizable terrace furnished with umbrellas, table and chairs. Meals can be taken here in fine weather and the terrace provides a relaxation area at all times of the day - it is particularly popular on a warm evening. The garden is well stocked with trees, flowers and shrubs and secure private parking for guests is available on the gravelled entrance drive. There is a picnic area under the trees for the use of guests and a built-in BBQ.
Coast/Beach
Our nearest beach is at the fresh water Lac St. Pardoux, which is about 20 mins drive away, and is a popular destination for those wishing to relax in the sun. We are located inland, so the nearest sea coast is La Rochelle in the Charente Maritime, around 2 hours drive away.
Travel
'Bel Ombrage' is close to both Poitiers Biard and Limoges Bellegarde airports. From Limoges we are about 45 mins drive, from Poitiers around an hour. Ryanair fly to both destinations daily. There is also a regular train service from Limoges and Poitiers which stops at the station here in Le Dorat, a 15 min walk away. Car hire is not an essential for your visit, as the town offers most of the facilities you will require, but is recommended for those wishing to travel further afield.
Distances
The town centre of Le Dorat is within 10 mins walk and offers most of the day to day facilities you are likely to require. The regional capital, Limoges, is about 45 mins drive away and is a sizable metropolis, while the large city of Poitiers with its castle and cathedral is around an hour by car.
Further details
Bank, post office, hairdressers and all the usual amenities are available in Le Dorat itself. There is a sizable supermarket, and the expected boulangeries, charcuterie and other shops. You will also find here an outlet for Limoges porcelain which offers exceptional value for money, and where china is considerably less expensive than in Limoges itself. There are several restaurants in the town, but bear in mind that we offer you the facility to dine with us in the evening if you prefer. From the leisure point of view, there is a zoo and several other animal attractions within easy reach. Fishing is popular in the region, and several sites are a short drive away. The Poitiers Futurescope theme park is around an hour by car, and is very popular. The nearest golf course is at St. Junien, about one hour's drive.
