'Chez Baills' is maintained in the simple rustic tranquil artisanal rural style, surrounded by magnificent views of the Pyrenees. The farm is extensive and the grounds contain a large swimming pool and barbecue areas. The area contains many mountain 'trails' and provides easy access to picturesque villages and small towns. Perpignan and the Mediterranean beaches are 45/60 mins away and visits to Spain take a similar time. Thuir and Ceret is only 30 minutes away. The owner being architect and artist, reflects of course in the way the farm is renovated... 'It is not straight down the main road but easy to live in and colourful'. This year we will for the first time be able to offer lovely meals, a picknicq basket and good expresso coffee. The farm will have a trained cook ready to serve your wishes, or you may like to ask her to do your shop for you before arrival booking in advance.

Notes on prices
Prices are for the property per week in euros.
Winter 'lets' of one month or more prefered.
Long term lets is also possible.
Discount prices and prices for one person by negotiation with the owner.
If the apartment for two is rented out I might give you a bigger apartment for the same price, if it is possible for me - so please feel free to call.
Changeover day
Saturday changeovers preferred but other days will be considered. Arrivals please between 15:00-17:00 with Departures by 11:00. In summer, I have to ask for a bit of flexibility - sometimes it is not easy to finish in time. So you may have to wait..
Notes on accommodation
Dining furniture in each apartment is appropriate to number of people for that apartment. Each apartment has own wooden garden furniture and easy access the pool area. Everybody has a BBQ. The whole property is maintained in a simple rustic style good for children. Linen and towels are provided -but maybe not brand new. Smoking with care is allowed - preferable outside. Family pets also allowed, but you have to ask. There are dogs, and cats on the farm. Cleaning before leaving is not included, but may be commanded in advance.
We generally try to make a relaxed homely atmosphere, and there is enough space on the 200 hectares of land, for everybody to be able to find a quit corner to read a good book or have a little glass of wine on your own. In the summer, it is lovely to live in the mountains and just go down hill to shop, swim in the Mediterranean sea or have a good dinner. It is so crowded and warm on the plane, that it feels good to come home again.
Accessibility
We have had weelchairs here, it is possible, but I am sorry to say it is not really suited in my area.
Outside
Informal gardens, and rough pasture surround the farm buildings, the whole being surrounded by forested areas.
The detached house has a private barbecue and there is a second large barbecue and outdoor dining area, for the use of residents in the main farmhouse, there is also extra smaler BBQ's. Each apartment has it's own garden furniture,
but in addition there are other quiet, shady areas equipped with furntiture for the use of everyone. The swimming pool is large (7x9m) and its use is shared. There is sunbeds arround the pool.
Coast/Beach
The nearest beaches on the Mediterranean coast are at Argeles sur Mer some 40 mins away by car. Within an hours drive access can be gained to many coastal locations including the beaches of the northern Costa Brava and the area of 'L'Etang'. Depending of the age of your children different beaches may be recomended..pls.ask me for help.
Golf
There is a very good golf course 1 hour away in Spain.
Skiing
There is skiing 2 hours away. Or less...
Special interest holidays
The place is perfect for mountain biking, and walking in the mountains. A calm relaxed holiday. Children like to play with the animals, and of course there is the big pool. There is horse riding and tennis courts close. Since we always are renovating/improving the farm out of the summer months, we often have people staying exchanging work for rent. If this is interesting to you please contact me. Or if you would like to stay here from October to May, the prices are from 500-700 euros a month pr. apartment/house for 10.
Travel
Perpignan Airport is about a 50 mins drive. Gerona (Spain) & Carcassonne Airports are about an hour and a half.
Montpellier is about two hours and, Barcelona Airport is about two and half hour's distance. Journeys from the northern channel ports are extensive and will almost certainly entail an overnight stop. Access is possible from Bilbao in northern Spain - 7/8 hours driving time.
Distances
The village of St Marsal is 10 min away. Fourques is a bigger village 15 min away. The nearest town is Thuir 25 min away.
Perpignan is 45 min. Figueras in Spain, home of the Salvador Dali Art Museum is 1 hour from Chez Baills. Barcelona is about a two hours drive via the autoroute.
Further details
The nearest shop is in St Marsal, you will find bread and the basics, in a good little grocery shop. There is also two café/restaurants. Fourques has very good bread and meat. Banks and supemarkets and good restaurants, can be found in Thuir and Ceret. Doctor is in Thuir or Fourques. Hospital is in Perpignan. Due to the fact that the detached house and largest apartment are both very spacious, Chez Baills has been used by a number of visiting groups, including artists, naturalists, photographers, writers and those seeking tranqulity for spiritual reflection. In total we may easily accommodate groups of about 20 persons all together. We are also very fond of long term renters, and will try to fit your needs in any way we can. We now has a trained cook connected to the farm if you need.

A deposit of 33% is required upon booking with the balance due 8 weeks prior to the rental start. For bookings within 8 weeks of the start date the full amount is due immediately upon booking.

Hi Githe, Hope all is well with you. We got home safely and the holiday already seems far away. I just wanted to say that we had an absolutly fantastic time at Chez-baills. We loved the house, the views were spectacular and most of all we loved the atmosfere of the place. We felt so welcome and this made our holliday really special. There was lots of space inside the house and outside, and the kidsreally liked the freedom this is the first time for many years that I really felt I would like to come back to a place. I am a Danish architect who has lived nearly 20 years in these beautiful mountains.
I came for holiday - and stayed... To say, that for me it was 'love at first sight'.
It is a bit far from the busy summer crowds, but I feel very close to myself here... Just perfect!
If you are interested in a break from civilisation it might be right for you as well.
I live on the farm all year with my son Benjamin who is 13 years old.
We have cats and dogs, so if you don't like animals it might not be the right place for you.
