This light, bright modern apartment - comprehensively equipped - is 5 mins walk from the restaurants, shops and bars on the harbour quays where fresh fish is landed daily. The living room and large terrace look across the harbour and there is sun from early morning to late afternoon. The area offers excellent opportunities for walking, cycling & drives through the breathtaking scenery of vineyards, mountains, pretty villages and ruined chateaux and cathar castles. Ideally situated as a base to tour the region - Canal du Midi, medieval walled town of Carcassonne and the picturesque seaside village of Collioure are all within easy access as is the Spanish border enabling a day to be spent in Barcelona. The area enjoys one of the mildest climates in France and is ideal for out of season holidays. There are beaches within walking distance as well as larger sandy beaches near Argelθs 10 - 15 mins by car. There is also diving and snorkeling in the Marine Reserve.

The winter rate for 2011/12 until 30/04/2012 is 432 Euros per week. For 2012/13 the winter charge from October to April will be 465 Euros per week. Both these 2 prices exclude water and electricity. [For all other months water and electricty are included]
There are substantial discounts available for lets greater than 2 weeks in all price bands.

Bookings are Saturday to Saturday: other times by arrangement.

There are small beaches within walking distance and larger sandy beaches close by - 10 to 15 mins by car or by bus (1 each way).

Perpignan - Ryanair, BMI, Flybe; drive time 40 mins to apartment. Carcassonne - Ryanair; drive time 1 hr 30. Girona,Spain - Ryanair; drive time 1 hr 30. Toulouse - EasyJet; drive time 2 hrs 30. Car Hire from airports essential except Perpignan (bus and train). Trains from London St Pancras to Perpignan & Perpignan to Port Vendres
Driving from Calais allow about 11 to 12 hours.
Distances
Collioure is within walking distance (30 mins) or by car 5 mins: alternatively take the boat from the harbour or le petit train touristique
30 minutes by car from Perpignan (the train is an alternative)
Some 30 - 40 minutes from Spanish border making it possible to visit Cadeques or Barcelona for the day
The are many small villages with historic churches and castles in the Alberes mountains and in the Pyrenees - choose between half day and full day tours.

Variety of restaurants very close by with boulangeries, charcuterie, small shops, Saturday market - all 5 mins walk away. Larger supermarket and banks in the town. Fresh fish daily from the quays or fish market.

My wife and I live in England and love France. We try to spend as much time in France as we possibly can, taking into account our work and family commitments.

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
Languedoc Roussillon appealed because at the time we knew very little about the area other than that it was steeped in history and, as well as the coast for relaxation, the Pyrenees offered lots of opportunities for walking. It was a marvellous choice and we have not been disappointed!
Unique benefits of the property
We wanted a property that was easy to look after. It also had to be within easy walking distance of restaurants. Port Vendres even in the middle of winter always has restaurants that are open (unlike the beach resorts close by). The fresh fish off the quay is special. The local wines (Banyuls, Collioure etc) are special too. In the summer it’s a very vibrant community. When retirement comes we are looking forward to spending much more time down there.
