Apartment in French Alps
At the Heart of the Paradiski Area
Sleeps 4/6 (2 Bedrooms)

|
The apartment is ideally situated 300 metres from the centre of the village in an attractive timbered building. It has beautiful views from all rooms across the Isere valley to Mont Blanc. It is light and airy, attractively furnished and fully equipped for six people. The apartment is one floor above ground level with lifts from the foyer. Being on a hillside the rear of the building is at ground level and you can usually ski back to the building in the winter season. Les Coches is a small family resort, purpose-built in the style of a traditional mountain village in wood and stone. It is at the centre of the Paradiski area on a wooded plateau at 1450 meters, with a good road up from the valley. The village has a small main square, with baker, butcher, delicatessen, mini-market, restaurants, tourist office, ski school and equipment hire shops. You do not need to go anywhere else to buy food and essentials, though the shops have all been kept deliberately small-scale.

Skiing
The apartment is close to ski lifts and the centre of the resort. Les Coches is in the La Plagne sector of the huge Paradiski area. Snow-making on the main slopes means that you can ski back to the village till late in the season. The lower runs are through woods, and so are sheltered. You can see the Les Arcs ski slopes to the right from the apartment, and a direct link there from Les Coches via the new Vanoise Express gives quick and easy access. In the resort there is an ice-skating rink and cross-country ski trails through the woods. There are various guided activities, such as snow-shoe tours, dog sleigh rides and nature walks. A full ski pass usually allows you to spend a day in other resorts nearby at no extra cost: Val d’Isere / Tignes and the Three Valleys (Meribel, Val Thorens, Les Menuires). Our information pack sent after booking contains details of ski pass/ski hire/lessons.

Further details
There is an excellent range of summer activities, including hang-gliding, hiking, horse-riding, mountain-biking, parachuting and guided nature walks. On the river Isere below, there is white-water rafting, canoeing and canyoning. There is a surfaced path running for miles alongside the river for walkers, joggers, roller-bladers and cyclists. There is a lido on the river for summer swimming and an outdoor pool in the neighbouring village of Montchavin. The lovely lakeside town of Annecy is only an hour’s drive away, or practise your hairpin-bend driving technique on a day visit to Italy via the Petit St. Bernard Pass (closed in winter).
The town of Bourg St. Maurice is about eight miles away - down the mountain and turn right. It is a real town with a life of its own beyond tourism. There is a pedestrianised centre with a good range of small shops and a weekly street market. Just on the outskirts there are two large supermarkets.

Owner profile
About the owner
My family have been enjoying skiing holidays since 1970 and we have had experience of a large number of resorts around Europe. In 1999 we decided to put down roots in Les Coches because we liked its small village feel and bought the apartment. That plus the vast ski area available made the decision simple. Twelve years on we are still enjoying it all, winter and summer alike. We have made quite a few improvements to the apartment since we bought it and our regular trips there mean we can keep it in good condition. With grandchildren now beginning to ski we are looking forward to even more fun on the slopes.
Year purchased: 1999
