Maison Florence is a traditional farm situated in the Pyrenees, with outstanding views of the mountains and valleys below. Sheep and cows graze our estate, where wildflowers and rare birds abound in the private pasture and woodland. Children love our lambs and calves, and adults dine on warm summer nights beneath the walnut trees.

Notes on accommodation
The house is centrally heated, as well as having a handsome hearth in one sitting room, a log burner in the other. Plenty of logs are supplied from the estate, free of charge. A cot, highchair etc can be provided.
There is high speed internet connection with wifi and an elderly but functional computer. You'll find a good supply of books, DVDs and indoor and outdoor games.
Children are particularly welcome at Maison Florence, and always enjoy our collection of friendly animals.
We are happy to get in supples for you on arrival, and to cook dinner by prior arrangement, using our own produce whenever possible.
Outside
The private gardens and courtyard are laid to lawns and flowerbeds, and we have organic veg, fruit and herb gardens, with surplus supplies often available for the picking!
There is a laundry with washing and drying machines and a games room with table tennis, bar footie etc. Outside there is a boules area, badminton and croquet (equipment supplied!) large barbecue and ample seating beneath the magnificent walnut trees, with views of the mountains and villages below. There is an above ground pool, lovely for cooling off on a hot summer's evening, or for teaching little ones to swim.
Coast/Beach
The Atlantic coast is an easy 1 1/2 hours drive away, with great surfing and well known resorts such as Biaritz.
Skiing
Many of our guests have returned several times to enjoy the local ski resorts. The closest, Gourette, is 35 minutes away, and there are several others within the area. These Pyrenen resorts are usually uncrowded and very good value, and supply resources for both experienced and novice skiers. There are creches avaiable, and official ski schools as well as English speaking instructors.
Travel
Nearest airports are Pau (45 mins) Toulouse (2 hrs) and Bordeaux (2 1/2 hrs) all wth cheap flights from UK. Nearest ferry ports are Santander or Bilbao, about 4 hrs drive.
A car is necessary.
Distances
The pretty village of Arudy is 5 miles away, where there are two markets a week, selling local produce, home grown fruit and veg and locally made sheeps' cheeses. The city of Pau, an elegant and historic centre with its famous castle, and Oloron, ancient city of two rivers, two cathedrals and bustling weekly markets, are each half an hours drive away. Several of the famed mountain stages of the Tour de France cyle race are nearby, and walking trails start on our doorstep!
Further details
Arudy has an excellent supermarket, as well as swimming pools, tennis courts, banks and all the facilities you'll need. There are several very good restaurants nearby for all sizes of pocket! Fishing is popular, licences are cheap.
Go riding in the mountains, white water rafting or hire a giude for the more dedicated hikers. There are many local country festivals, featuring traditional crafts, Bearnaise singing, music and dancing. Wild flowers and birds are considered exceptional.
Booking notes
Bookings are taken by email, with 20 per cent deposit taken to secure, balance at least 2 weeks before arrival. Amenities are included. Extras (sheets towels etc 10 euros a head if required) meals or shopping can be paid for at the end of your stay.
