Chateau des Egrons is perched in the Gironde hills with commanding views of vineyards and fields bordering the Dordogne and the Lot. The site dates back to Roman times and the main building which has 4 towers dates back to the 15th century. It is set in 2.5 acres in total privacy surrounded by a clipped hedge. The pool and tennis court are for your exclusive use. Rooms are large with antique furniture and high ceiling. The Chateau is well equipped for all ages. The 100 foot enclosed court yard and 100 ft back terrace are among several places you can sit and relax with food or wine. The property has full heating as well as open fires and stoves. Close to Duras, and between St.Emillion and Bergerac.

Changeover day
Changeover day is Saturday and bookings are from 4pm Saturday to 10am the following Saturday. For departing guests the Chateau staff requires access from 9am on the last Saturday.

Utility Room: Utility room connected to the kitchen with extra drinks fridge and washing machine; drying racks and pantry table.2 x cots and highchair stored here.
Living Rooms: 5 fantastic receptions with fire places: TV room with Hi Fi, DVD, video, satellite TV, lovely formal salon with views and Hi Fi and DVD. Informal salon (garden room) with views, south facing conservatory, formal dining hall with antique Chinese furniture.
Other: The south east tower is used as a games room with a table tennis table; the courtyard has a covered loggia for BBQs on damp evenings.

Notes on accommodation
The pool has decking and is in full sun, poolside shade under nut trees and parasols, lots of outdoor seating, recliners and parasols on all sides of the property, lots of room and privacy and personal space when needed! Fantastic new all weather tennis court.

Accessibility
The living space is all on the ground floor wheelchair access is fine. The courtyard has gravel which is sometimes less easy for wheelchairs.

Outside
Large pool (18ft x 36ft) with decking and lots of high quality poolside furniture and parasols, in full sun with lovely views, shade under the poolside walnut trees.
New all weather tennis court in the north east garden.
The back terrace has seating (for 16) and parasols and the courtyard has a large teak table that seats 12-14 and parasol, an extra teak table is in covered courtyard loggia where the gas and traditional BBQs are also housed. There is a games room in the south east tower with a table tennis table.
Championship golf course within 15 minutes drive.

Coast/Beach
The dunes of Arcachon near Bordeaux are around 110km (1 hour 15 mins) by car.

Golf
Championship golf course. The magnificent Chateau des Vigiers course (27 holes) is less than 15 mins by car. Marmond (25 mins) has a charming 10 hole course.

Special interest holidays
Holidays including cooking courses and tours of markets and wine producing chateaux can be arranged on request for groups of up to 8. Alternative, for a special occasion you can arrange for one the Chateau chefs to cook you a fantastic meal at the Chateau (and do all the shopping washing and clearing!).

Travel
Bordeaux airport is an hour and 15 mins by car; Bergerac airport is 40 mins by car, as is Libourne station which has fast trains from Paris. Bordeaux train station is an alternative. Talouse airport is about 2½ hours by car. Car hire is easily available at all these locations.

Distances
The charming town of Duras is a 6 min drive; St Foy-la-Grande is 20 mins drive. Bergerac and St Emillion are 35 min drives. The closest village is 3km away.

Further details
The area is surrounded by charming villages, traditional French markets, vineyards and all the activities that make rural France magical. Supermarkets and highest quality artisan bread makers (Duras) are close by and local Restaurants plus places of interest and activity are all detailed in the Chateau's Information book and Restaurant guide.

Booking notes
A booking deposit is due at time of booking (50%) and the remainder is due 8 weeks prior to travel. A refundable security deposit of £250 per week is required. 2 week or more bookings during peak season.

About the owner
We have owned Chateau des Egrons for over 10 years and every year sees a new project or improvement. Along with our three children we all enjoy being host to the many friends who visit us when we are there. We visit as a family without fail even though the older 2 children are at university. We all have our different reasons for loving the place and get great enjoyment from it. We are keen cooks and the local markets offer fantastic seasonal opportunities. I often teach cooking at the Chateau and the large and open kitchen is perfect for this purpose. Our dalmatians are now well know in the area and can be seen tearing around the fields and countryside when we are there. I have not stopped exploring the surrounding areas for new places and delights; still lots of surprises!

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We had often been on holiday in the area and love it. We wanted somewhere we could drive to but that also had a bit of magic and fantasy. Being near golf and the river and being surrounded by excellent wine and good food is just great. Friends visit us regularly and Bergerac and Bordeaux airports are very convenient; the dogs love it too!

Unique benefits of the property
The great age and character of the place, its serene beauty and timeless elegance and space are what we love about the Chateau. It is lovely at all times of the year which are so very different. It is a great house for guests who have the space and privacy to relax. The tennis court and pool are great fun although the table football gets its fair share of use. With the satellite internet connection we know that we can stay in touch with the world at large.
