Notes on accommodation
New for 2007. We now offer a table d'hôte option to make your holiday even more memorable. The kitchen area leads out to an enclosed gated garden via a split level barn door, there is a stairgate if required and the barn is fully central-heated for winter breaks. A comprehensive selection of most of the contemporary and classic childrens DVDs and some good CDs too. The space is also used as a backdrop to exhibit local artwork.

Outside

Front garden is fenced and gated, with loads of childrens toys if required, paddling pool and play tent.New for spring 2008, spa and mezzanine loung area.
Coast/Beach
A 10 minute drive to a fresh water lake with beach, safe swimming and water slides. A 30 minute drive to the port of La Rochelle and a further 10 minutes to the beautiful Ile de Rè and its beaches. 100 kms of award winning sandy beaches in the Vendèe, La Tranche Sur Mer takes about 45 minutes by car.
Special interest holidays
We now also offer 'kit and kaboodle' fully inclusive weekend breaks, including all transport, freshly prepared organic meals, dining out, beauty treatments, wine tasting, excursions to La Rochelle and/or other places of interest. Christmas market weekends and 'Rabelais Feast' holidays over the festive season with special Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Eve menus.
Travel
La Rochelle airport is approx. 35 minutes away by car, Nantes airport takes about 1 hour and Poitiers is approx. 1 hour 15 minutes away. Car hire is necessary and most providers are available at each airport. The port of St.Malo takes approx. 3 hours by car, Caen takes about 4 hours and Cherbourg approx. 5 hours.
Distances
The renaissance town of Fontenay le Comte with a wide range of shops and hypermarkets and a great open market weekly is 9 kms away.
The forest of Mervent is 15 minutes away by car and offers spectacular walking, mountain biking and water sports.
Futuroscope futuristic theme park is an hour away at Poitiers.
Puy de Fou chateau and theme park is approx. 40 minutes away.
Further details
Maillezais itself is the site of an important 11th century abbey and holds daily attractions throughout the summer. It is also a port into the Venise Verte, a labarynth of verdant water ways to discover by 'barque'(small boat). There is a wide range of local amenities including, a small supermarket, bakers, butchers, pharmacy, tabac, post office, tourist information, English speaking doctor, cafés, bars and restaurants all within walking distance. Tennis courts in the village and the gate way to 80 kms of traffic free cycle path. Bikes available for use. Horse riding in the next village. Fishing.
