Uzes Première Duchy de France. A market town dating back to before Roman times. The Romans took the waters from Uzès via the Pont du Gard to use in their famous baths in Nimes. Uzès is a pleasure to wander round, to admire the architecture, window shop or just to stop for a while at one of the many bar terraces and watch the world go by. There is a large market every Saturday full of local colour and well worth a visit. There is a hypermarket situated on the outskirts of the town. There are a number of restaurants to choose from to suit most tastes (and pockets).
Nimes Gateway to the Camargue, Nimes is an ancient Roman town. Les Arènes, La maison carré are just two examples of the architecture and history to discover here. As in every city, there are extensive shopping facilities and a delightful centre given over entirely to pedestrians. There is a market with street theatre and music every Thursday evening. There is also a large hospital with an outpatients department.
Avignon Le Palais des Papes, Le pont d’Avignon, La place de l’Horloge, to name but a few of the points of interest dating back to the time when Avignon was the papal capital. There is a pedestrian shopping area in the centre of the town, which is worth a visit too. The famous theatre festival of Avignon fills every available theatre, garage and street corner with actors, clowns and musicians during the second half of July.
Ales Gateway to the Cevennes Mountains with a very comprehensive shopping centre and weekly market. If you would like further details on what to see and do, the tourist office in Uzès is well stocked with literature in all languages and the multilingual staff will be happy to help
