It is in a pretty little hamlet only 3km from St Hilaire de Villefranche and makes a beautiful location for a complete holiday. Pass under the covered gateway into a huge gravelled courtyard enclosed by the property's barns; park in the massive hanger and discover the orchard, kitchen garden, lawns and swimming pool. The lovely cities of Saintes and St Jean-d'Angely with their markets and restaurants make great places to start exploring and the sandy coast offers everything from little oyster ports with excellent restaurants, an internationally famous zoo at La Palmyre or surfing on the Cote Sauvage. Satellite TV, DVD and wireless broadband are provided and English property managers ensure that everything is maintained to a high standard.

Changeover day
Saturday is changeover day, although during quiet times of year this can be varied by arrangement. Arrival time on your first Saturday is 4pm and to allow for cleaning. Please depart by 10:30am on your departure day.

Bathrooms: 1st floor bathroom with bath and shower over, separate WC.
Ground floor shower room and separate WC.
Kitchen: Gas range style cooker, dishwasher, fridge freezer, convection/microwave oven, coffee machine, kettle, toaster etc.
Utility Room: A large light back kitchen has a washing machine, tumble dryer, sink, an extra fridge for drinks, a second microwave oven and even a bread maker.
Living Rooms: Large dayroom with leather sofas, traditional French refectory table, beautiful Charentaise stone fireplace with inset wood burner, flatscreen TV, Sky box and DVD/CD player. There are speakers to plug into your iPod / laptop etc.

Notes on accommodation
The property has a wireless broadband connection. The ground floor twin bedroom, shower room, w/c and back kitchen can be used as separate accommodation for grand parents or teenagers. Parents - the road through the village is not busy and the gates into the courtyard can be locked, however the gardens are not fenced at the rear, which opens to fields. The swimming pool is enclosed by approved fencing and self-closing gates to ensure that young children cannot gain access without you.

Accessibility
The ground floor offers a twin bedroom, shower room w/c and kitchen. One small step must be navigated to reach these from either of the outside doors.

Outside
The gardens have views across a valley to vines and are bounded on the south by open farmland which is planted to wheat or sunflowers on alternate years (sunflowers 2011). There is an area planted with a variety of trees, a large courtyard surrounded by barns and a shade tree to take refuge when it is hot.
The heated swimming pool has plenty of space for loungers and faces due south for uninterrupted sun-bathing and privacy. It is a top quality in ground pool with heating, automatic chlorination, and an insulating roll on cover to preserve heat and cleanliness.
The property managers visit every Saturday (or by arrangement) to maintain the pool and perhaps cut the grass or other gardening.

Coast/Beach
The coast between La Rochelle and Royan can be typically reached in under an hour, with the fabulous Côte Sauvage, north of Royan famous for wind surfing and miles of unspoilt beach. The lovely Ile d'Oléron and Ile de Ré (holiday home to the rich and famous) are both in easy reach. The estuary of the river Seudre produces 60% of France's fine de claire oysters.

Golf
There are a number of golf courses in the area -
The nearest 18 hole courses are Saintes and Cognac.
On the coast there are 18 hole courses at la Rochelle and Royan.
There are several 9 and 6 hole courses in the area too.

Travel
By Air (car hire recommended) -
La Rochelle - Ryanair, Easyjet and Flybe. 1 hour drive.
Poitier - Ryanair, 1:20 hrs. Bordeaux - many airlines, 1:30
Bergerac - Flybe, Ryanair, 2:25. Limoges - Ryanair, 2:25 .
By Car -
The shortest drive from the channel ports is 4 hours from St Malo, Calais takes about 6hr 45m.

Distances
St Hilaire de Villefranche is the local town 3km away. Saintes is a beautiful roman city 20 minutes drive away with a host of good restaurants and an outdoor market every day except Monday. St Jean d'Angely is 15 minutes away and also has excellent restaurants and an open market on Wednesday and Saturday. The famous and historic city of Cognac is half an hour away and La Rochelle is an hour.

Further details
The cities of Saintes to the south and St Jean d'Angeley to the north have big supermarkets, banks, hotels, restaurants, shops, markets and so on. St Hilaire de-Villefranche is nearby (3km) and has several shops including a small supermarket, two good bakeries, a butchers, a bank, a pharmacy, a florist and a bar restaurant. There is also a little open market selling meat and eggs on Saturday and oysters on Sunday.
