Notes on accommodation
The Old Barn is a converted 17th century stone and slate barn, originally serving the inhabitants of the hamlet of Pertus. Restored by local craftsmen, the ancient exterior is complemented by a contemporary, cool and airy interior, with tiled floors and full height vaulted ceiling. Large windows and french doors flood the living area with light and lead out to a fabulous deck with spectacular views of the countryside.

Guests are invited to enjoy the orchard garden and to help themselves to peaches, plums, apples and pears. In season, fresh produce is available from the vegetable garden and a variety of fresh herbs can be picked in the courtyard.

Accessibility
The Old Barn was designed to provide full wheelchair access to the ground floor, outside deck area, garden and pool area. The front and downstairs doors are wider than standard and the ground floor shower and WC are fully wheelchair accessible. Parking is immediately adjacent to the front door. A wheelchair hire service is available in nearby Villefranche. The property is registered with the local town hall.

Outside
The lounge opens onto a large timber deck, 5 x 5m, overlooking the orchard and is set with two sun loungers, table, chairs and parasol. The orchard garden is fenced for safety and a gated ramp leads down to the secluded pool area, shared with the owner's house, which is fitted with an AFNOR approved alarm. The pool is 5 x 10m and is heated by solar panels. Loungers and parasols are provided.

Coast/Beach
Pertus is equidistant from both the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts. There are several lakes in the area with artificial beaches providing sheltered, safe swimming. Swimming is also possible in a number of rivers subject to due care being exercised.

Owner profile

About the owner
Tim and Angela Reynolds retired to Pertus in 2011. Following 42 years of commuting to London from the home counties, Tim has been looking forward to indulging his love of history, gardening and walking. Angela has always enjoyed welcoming family and friends to their home and is now revelling in stoking the fires in the farmhouse at Pertus, cooking and looking for new projects in The Old Barn and the garden. Latest thinking is the installation of a Petanque court!

Year purchased: 2011

Why the owner chose a home in this location
Tim and Angela stumbled upon Pertus by accident, whilst concentrating on seeking properties in Jersey, where Angela was born and raised. Within a week they had visited the property and fallen in love with it and put in an offer, relishing the idea of adding their own mark to a 17th century farm which had been lovingly restored by local craftsmen using traditional methods and materials. The area is simply stunning, the ridges, gorges and valleys offering spectacular views around every corner. With so many beautiful medieval towns to explore and a climate that is glorious, with long hot summers, the Aveyron region is unspoilt, unassuming, peaceful and relaxing.

Unique benefits of the property
The Old Barn at Pertus offers the opportunity to get away from it all; to enjoy peace and quiet in a tranquil location but with the opportunity to get out and explore with ease.
