We had a wonderful one week stay in La Camille for our second year in a row. The house is bright, airy and situated in a quite cul-de-sac. It is only a couple of minutes walk from the yachting port on the River Vilaine, which is overlooked by a variety of bars and restaurants. The old town is only a short walk up the hill, where you can wander around its quaint streets, watch the Artisans at work and discover more bars, cafes and restaurants. Within about 30 minutes by car, there are plenty of places to discover on the coast that include beautiful towns, sandy beaches, rock pools and sandstone cliffs. We wish we had discovered this part of France when our children were young!

We had a week here back in July. Property exceeded expectations...very much home from home. Really enjoyed south facing garden...lots of BBQ's! Location is excellent....2 minutes walk and you are by the river and restaurants. 10 minute walk, and you're in the Old Town, with nice restaurants and shops. La Roche Bernard itself was an exceptionally pretty town, with a quality feel to it. The wider area is excellent with more beautiful towns to visit, excellent markets, and we really enjoyed the unspoilt beaches. all in all, lovely house, location and holiday! We'll be back

About the Owner
Mike and Sylvia Hodgins live in Belfast in Northern Ireland. Over the years we have enjoyed holidays in many parts of France and first came across the Morbihan and La Roche Bernard about 15 years ago. Then it was with a fairly young family and we spent a memorable few days on the town’s small campsite en route back home via Cherbourg. Many things struck us about the town, not least the friendly nature of the people we encountered. The town and the area grew on us and somehow or other we would visit it for a few days on almost every subsequent holiday. When we were in a position to buy a place of our own in France a few years ago there wasn't really a decision to be made - 'Bernard' had won our hearts!
Year property purchased: 2008
Why this location?
What was it that appealed to us about the place? Well we loved what we knew of the town, we loved what we knew of the surrounding area, the climate – this corner of Brittany enjoys a very pleasant micro climate –was delightful coming as we do from cooler more northern climes and we felt at one with 'la vie quotidienne'. We wanted to spend some more time here so it really just was a question of finding a property in the right location. In ‘La Camille’ we are satisfied that we have done that. It is in a quiet, end of cul-de-sac situation in a small development of similar houses just minutes away on foot from all the amenities of the town.
What are the unique benefits of the property?
Many holiday properties lay claim to being 'conveniently located' but really the phrase was coined to describe La Camille. A wealth of restaurants to suit all tastes and sizes of pocket lie within a ten minute stroll, likewise cafes and bars where you can sit and chat, sit and watch the world go by, or be treated to sometimes delightful, sometimes quirky live entertainment indoors or out. All sorts of cultural, artistic and leisure activities go on in the town. For us the essence of a good holiday involves comfortable accommodation, good dining, good company, an affinity with the area and its people and the pleasures of new attractions and experiences. This corner of France provides all of that and more.
