The house is in Montreuil Poulay - a small village with a bar, a shop and a church, close to castles, lakes, roman ruins and lovely walks. Montreuil Poulay is about 80 miles from the ferry ports at Caen and St. Malo, and not much further from Cherbourg. If you are travelling by air there are currently lo-cost flights to Dinard and Tours - each about 80 miles from the house. Half way between the historic towns of Mayenne and Lassay les Chateaux, in the region of the Pays de la Loire, Montreuil Poulay is an ideal base from which to explore the neighbouring regions of Brittany and Normandy as well as the local Mayenne department. This lovely part of France is renowned for its cheeses and fruit - apples for cider and calvados, and pears for perry.

Changeover day
Usually Saturday - but we are flexible. Arrival after 4pm, departure by 10.30am.
Accommodation
| Bedrooms: | Bedroom 1 has a double bed (and a cot). Bedroom 2 has full sized bunk beds. Bedroom 3 has a large double bed - there is also room to put up the single futon chair/bed which lives in the sitting room. There is another sofa bed in the living area. |
| Bathrooms: | The bathroom has a bath (with shower above), sink, WC and lashings of hot water! |
| Kitchen: | The kitchen is really well equipped for family holidays and those who like to spend the day browsing the markets, and the evening cooking their purchases. There is a cooker, fridge, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. |
| Living Rooms: | The ground floor is completely open plan - ideally suited for sociable evenings of cooking, eating, conversation and family fun. It comprises an open kitchen with solid oak worktops, living area with sofa, armchair, coffee table, and large dining table. |

Guests can play and picnic in the garden, which is across the single track road which runs in front of the house.
Coast/Beach
The cottage is an hour and a half's drive to lovely beaches in Normandy close to le Mont St Michel. However, close at hand there are several lakes set up for swimming and water sports.
Travel
Our house is about 80 miles from the ferry ports at Caen and St. Malo, and not much further from Cherbourg. Alternatively you can do the shorter crossing from Dover to Calais and the longer drive (but on very good french roads) - either way the total journey time is much the same. If you are travelling by air there are currently lo-cost flights to Dinard and Tours - each about 80 miles from the house.
Distances
The house is a matter of metres from the local shop/bar and 1km from the nearest Auberge. Lassay les Chateaux and Mayenne (which have markets, supermarkets, tourist info, restaurants etc) are approximately 5 and 10 miles respectively.
Booking notes
Once you make a booking (with 25% deposit) we will send you confirmation and a receipt. You will then send us a final cheque 8 weeks prior to your holiday. We will then send you travel directions, instructions for collecting the key and local contact details.
House swap
House swap considered - particularly coastal or city location. We would only need accommodation for 2 or 3. No special access requirements. Non smokers. No pets.
Owner profile
About the owner
We bought our cottage in northern France because we had had so many happy family holidays there over the years. The cottage hadn't been lived in for a while, but with the help of local artisans we have brought it back to life so that it is now a comfortable and easy place to relax. We visit, with various members of our extended family, several times a year and each time we find something new to do in the area. We have been renting out the cottage since 2004 and we are very happy to provide guests and potential guests with any information they require. If we don't know the answer, we can usually point you in the right direction!
