The Bastidon Tower dominates the local countryside, overlooking vineyards and olive groves with views to the distant hills and is shaded by a giant oak tree. This medieval building features a rounded turret and has recently been renovated and equipped for modern living. It offers accommodation for 4 on two floors with a terrace facing the morning sunrise. Secluded but not isolated, the Tower is part of a 6 acre property suitable for family holidays throughout the year. Facilities (shared exclusively with owners) include pool, barbecue on large terrace and area for small children with playhouse, swings and sandpit. The historic village of Cotignac, with its two Sarasin towers, provides banks, shops, restaurants, pharmacy, doctors, dentists and a very colourful market on Tuesday mornings, plus a smaller one on Friday mornings during the summer season. Sandy beaches on the Côte d'Azur are accessible within an hour by car, local activities are listed below. The house is smoke free.

Changeover day
During high season, preferred changeover day is Saturday. Guests must leave by 10 am and new arrivals can access the property after 4 pm.

Notes on accommodation
Children's cot/bedding, high chair, safety gate, etc are available on request. Iron can also be provided on request. All rooms in Tower have individual electric radiators. The bathroom also has a towel radiator.
Outside
The pool is shared exclusively with the owners and their visiting family; it is 13m x 6m, 1.30m at shallow end, 2.50m at deep end, with a hard security cover and salt purification system; the pool is heated to prolong the season (late April - end October, weather permitting). There is a solar shower and a cold water sink by the pool with city water (drinkable), lots of deckchairs and pool accessories, ping-pong table and refrigerator in the poolhouse. The main house is only a couple of terraces up from the pool but far enough for privacy.
The barbecue terrace is also shared with the owners by mutual arrangement. The property is near a river so small children need constant supervision.
Coast/Beach
Sandy Mediterranean beaches on the Var coastline between Ste Maxime and Hyères are 1 hour plus away by car.
Golf
Barbaroux Golf Course, ranked in the top 20 in France, is 30 minutes away and other excellent courses are close - St. Endreol (40 minutes), Nans les Pins (40 minutes) and Ste Maxime (1 hour).
Travel
The airports at Nice, Toulon/Hyères and Marseille are each 1 hour 15 minutes away. The property is 30 minutes from the Brignoles exit off the A8 motorway. The French TGV rail service calls at Marseille (1 hour 15 minutes), Toulon (1 hour 15 minutes) and Les Arcs/Draguignan (45 minutes). A car is essential.
Distances
The town of Cotignac (population 2,000) is 2kms away from the property. Other local towns are Carcès (10 minutes by car) and Brignoles (30 minutes).
Further details
Cotignac has a lively, colourful weekly market on Tuesday mornings, and most nearby villages/towns have weekly markets. Cotignac has all the basic facilities - doctor, bank, ATM, three bakers, butcher, a fishmonger, two grocery stores, pharmacy, hairdressers, hardware store and many cafes and restaurants. There are a number of excellent restaurants in nearby villages and towns. Locally available activities include tennis, hiking, swimming, fishing and watersports on the magnificent Lac Ste Croix, and the Gorges du Verdon (France's answer to the Grand Canyon) are just one hour away and provide an unforgettable experience. The area is rich in fauna/flora. One of our visiting couples recently left an impressive list of all the birds sighted within the property and further afield during a 2-week stay in July. Booking notes
A deposit of 20% should be paid to confirm your required reservation dates. Six weeks before arrival, payment of the remainder and a refundable security deposit of 300 Euros need to be received.

We are anglo-american retirees who decided to spend our early retirement renovating and enhancing a little bit of paradise in the Var. After spending most of our professional life working in the international sector in Geneva, we decided to seek a more clement environment and fell in love with this property which we continue to enjoy sharing with our family and friends.
