Dear Carol & Tony - a belated special thanks for our wonderful stay at Mouflon -we loved the house and the area. The weather was very kind to us as well.In fact I took the liberty to bring a little bit of Mouflon back to Essex-I have a bowl of walnuts from your tree. Regards David Lee (Sept 2011)
We all had a wonderful holiday - the house and grounds are beautiful and well equipped and the weather during the first week was fantastic. Sophie (Aug 2011)
Everything was perfect when we arrived. Both houses were spotless, bright & welcoming - fresh flowers on the table - really lovely & much appreciated. (I thanked the ladies before we left). Mouflon is a perfect family holiday/reunion venue for us - plenty of room inside lots of privacy & space outside - we all love it there & our days tumbled happily one into the next - (when we could drag ourselves away from the pool) - bike rides, swimming, games, trampolining, (not me!) & preparing 'banquets', to eat in the sunshine. About the owner
We live in West Sussex, my husband Tony is a project manager in the telecoms industry and I am a HR consultant. We have three children ranging from 27 years to 13 years.
We have a team of people helping to look after Mouflon, they have done so for a number of years. We visit about four times a year.
I was brought up in Cornwall and my family were hoteliers. As a teenager I used to wait on before school and chambermaid at weekends. We joined the family business for a few years and managed a 50 bedroom family hotel in Newquay. Owning our own holiday business was something we had always aspired to.
Why the owner chose a home in this location
Mouflon had been empty for many years and when I first saw it and was totally overgrown. When we started clearing the property we even found a small cottage we hadn't realised was there. The location was perfect but the first thing to hit you is the sheer size of the house. It had been in the same family for many generations and the last owner was a spinster who had spent 10 yrs in a nursing home. We found many of her belongings including photos, letters and documents dating back to the 1700's. I keep them in a suitcase but should really do something with them. The house still has many original features, some parts date back to the 1650's. I really like the unusually large windows, it means the house is really light and often sunny.
Unique benefits of the property
When we visit Mouflon we like to take friends and family, usually with plenty of children. There is space for the children to roam freely and very little traffic to worry about. Although the area is rural and relatively peaceful it is touristy enough to provide plenty of 'entertainment' pretty villages, medieval towns, shopping, restaurants, zoo's, adventure parks and plenty of beaches. What often happens is the group divides into small groups, some to golf, others to the town for shopping/coffee and some just chill out by the pool.
We renovated the house with large family groups in mind so there is minimal clutter, plenty of kitchen equipment, basins in every bedroom and kitchens and bathrooms to match the standard you would have at home. It's also nice not to have the owners on site
