Log cabin 'Aurora' is set in the beautiful mountain area of Yllas; Finland's number 1 ski resort. With a setting high above the Arctic Circle, the guaranteed snow throughout the skiing season makes for a perfect winter holiday. Yllas has that special combination of peace and tranquility, yet all the winter activities you would expect from snow boarding to husky sledging and of course beginners and advanced skiing facilities. However, Aurora offers year round pleasures, as each new season arrives they each bring their own delights. In the long summer days warm temperatures mean walking, fishing, hiking, cycling and canoeing are a pleasure. As the seasons change the magnificent Northern Lights become visible and of course Santa Claus awaits children in his home just a short walk from the cabin. At the centre of this experience, Log cabin Aurora has been designed and finished to make your stay special. A home from home you will want to come back to whichever season you choose.

Notes on accommodation
As is usual in Scandinavian countries, the cabin is very well insulated so you can be sure of a warm welcome whenever you choose to visit. Children will love the cabin, especially the loft area!

Accessibility
Sorry, due to the stairs to the loft area not suitable for the elderly or infirm. There is a stair gate at the bottom of the stairs.
Outside
The cabin has an outside terrace looking directly out on the forest and a veranda at the front.
Coast/Beach
Akaslompolo has a large freshwater lake at the centre, there are some small beaches and canoe hire available.
Golf
Golf at Levi where you can play golf under the midnight sun.
Skiing
The numerous slopes (60) and lifts (30) in Yllas provide you with the opportunity to ski or snowboard. Quiet slopes and instruction to a very high standard with English speaking guides mean the area is great for beginners and families. The ski bus picks up at Yllaskaltio hotel only 250m from cabin. There is a new gondola lift in Yllasjarvi.
Travel
Direct Charter flights fly to Kittila during the skiing season, bus or taxi transfer to resort. Year round, Scheduled flights to Helsinki (BA, Finnair, Easyjet)and then fly to Kittila or Rovaniemi. Fly to Pajala in Sweden and mini bus to resort
Ryanair fly to Tampere. For a really special experience take the overnight sleeper train (Santa Claus Express) from Helsinki or Tampere to Kolari.
Distances
Yllaskaltio hotel is within 250 metres of the cabin and from here you can get the ski bus to the slopes or buses to Kolari and Kittila. Akaslompolo village is compact and you will find good restaurants, bars and a well stocked supermarket within easy walking distance. There are a number of safari companies operating in the village who will organise winter and summer activities. Akas Hotel has a Spa and swimming pool (payable locally) if you are in need of pampering!
Further details
Akaslompolo is a traditional Lappish village with warm friendly people and a charm of it's own. In winter you can ski on uncrowded slopes or enjoy snowmobile trips, husky rides or why not visit the real Father Christmas in his cabin in the forest. The Northern Lights are a spectacular sight that you may be lucky enough to experience. During the warm summer months you can enjoy walking, fishing, canoeing, mountain biking or just take in the clean air.
