Wimbledon Tennis Championships

FA Cup FinalWimbledon, London, UK

Late June / early July, annually

The traditional English tennis event that is Wimbledon is one of the top four grand slam events, along with the Australian Open in Melbourne, French Open in Paris and US Open in New York. Wimbledon was the first of the majors, beginning in 1877. As well as tennis, Wimbledon is also famous for strawberries and cream and rainy afternoons with Cliff Richard (although not any more on centre court since they installed a roof in 2009!). Wimbledon has a lot of history behind it and watching the matches live, with the atmosphere and good old English hospitality, is a wonderful experience not just for tennis enthusiasts.

Tickets:

You can get tickets by entering into the public ballot in advance, which does not automatically entitle you to tickets but earns you a place in the draw for tickets to either Centre Court, No.1, No.2 or No.3 Courts.

Applications for the 2011 Public Ballot have now closed, but you can apply again for Wimbledon 2012 from August 2011.

Some tickets (approximately 500) are reserved each day at the turnstiles for days 1 – 9 for Centre Court and Court No. 2 and the same number are available for all 13 days for Court No. 1.

Several hundred tickets available during The Championships will be sold via the Ticketmaster website.
You can enter the grounds by getting one of the several thousand Ground Admission tickets which are available each day. This number will vary depending on the number of people already in the Grounds, the number of courts in play and the weather.
