Further Details
The picturesque conservation village of Stonesfield is set on the edge of the Cotswolds in an elevated position above the Oxford Basin. The village has become widely known for two things. Firstly, there are the unique roofing slates once mined from under the village from the 17th century until 1911. Secondly, as a by product of an industry which by its nature meant constant close scrutiny of thin layers of rock, a very large number of many important fossils of early plants and animals have come to light and added greatly to our knowledge of their evolution . Stonesfield can be regarded as being at the very heart of England, as it is about as far as one can get from the sea. It is situated where one can quickly access Motorways to reach most parts of the country.
The barn is situated in the heart of this picturesque village. The village shop is only a minute's walk away, and this, combined with the local butchers can provide for most day to day needs. The village pub is also just a short walk. Many local walks can be embarked upon from Follies Barn, being located on the Oxfordshire Way and only 2 miles from the Blenheim Estate with its Palace and extensive grounds all open to the public. The beautiful historic Woodstock is 5 miles away with shops and many restaurants and pubs . The university city of Oxford is 10 miles away. Further afield, London is 1 hour away, accessible by train or coach from Oxford or the mainline station in Charlbury 5 miles away. Stratford upon Avon, Warwick, Cheltenham, Burford etc are all within 1 hour. The list of places to visit is endless - a perfect location for touring the Cotswolds and further.
