About the area
Accessibility
Access to the cottage is via the passageway on foot. As is common with many properties in Salcombe, there is no parking space but you can offload your luggage in the lay-by directly opposite the entrance to the passageway. There is a short stay car park immediately opposite and a long term car park approximately 10 minute stroll away. The property itself is on 2 floors with internal stairs as well as stairs leading up to the decking area outside.
Outside
There is a small outside decking area with a built in barbecue. There is a table and chairs to seat 6. There is a small storage shed for outdoor beach toys and fishing nets etc. Guests are welcome to use these, but please then leave them at the property.
Coast/Beach
The many sandy beaches of Salcombe are within easy reach of the cottage. The South Sands Ferry/Tractor which takes holiday makers to the nearby South Sands (with water sports, cafe, restaurant) goes from the pier 1 minute walk away. The smaller ferry to East Portlemouth on the opposite shore is a 2 minute walk away. North Sands is a truly stunning 15 minute walk through town and along the coast. Surfing beaches at Bantham and Bigbury are a 15/20 minute drive away.
Golf
Several golf courses nearby, for example at Bigbury and Thurleston.
Special Interest Holidays
Walking, sailing, other water sports.
How to get there
Exeter airport is a 50 minute drive from Salcombe. We are approximately 3 and a half hours from SW London along the picturesque A303. Once you arrive in Salcombe, you can leave your car at the long stay car park (weekly parking tickets available at approx £30) and you can easily spend the time you are there on foot or by ferry. There is a short stay car park opposite the passageway and free parking in the higher roads in town.
Distances
There are several places of interest to visit in the area including Dartmouth town, castle and naval college, the famous art deco hotel at Bigbury, Overbecks (National Trust property), Woodlands Adventure Park (rainy days), Dart Adventures and various farms and activity centres - all within 30 minutes drive. There is a Tesco and a cinema in Kingsbridge (7 miles).
Further Details
There are several highly recommended restaurants all within very easy walking distance of the cottage. Salcombe is also famous for its stylish shops; many of the Jack Wills, Quba Sails, Crew, Joules, White Stuff, Fat Face variety. Also Amelia's Attic and specialist boutiques. There is a Boots, a small local shop selling food and essentials, an old fashioned sweet shop, a butcher, various delicatessens, an art gallery, a bank plus 2 cashpoint machines, a toy shop and a museum. There are boat hire facilities, sailing schools and fishing trips.

About the Owner
We are a family of 5 and a miniature schnauzer who live in Teddington, SW London. We have been visiting Salcombe on holiday for the last 9 years. We fell in love with its beauty and the pace of life, so we decided to buy a cottage there. We really love its location and hope that you will too. It is such a lovely, safe town where the children are given a freedom to wander and enjoy some independence in a way which they do not get in London. We also enjoy the fact that without Sky and wifi, we actually spend time away from screens and the kids have even been known to read and play board games! We definitely don't get down there as much as we would like to, but we hope that you will enjoy your time there. Thanks for looking, The Spencers.
