'Inkwells' was the original village school and was built in 1834 of local blue bank stone with the traditional herringbone cut. The village of Sleights is ideally placed for exploring the moors and the coast, being only 2.5 miles from Grosmont and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, 4 miles from Whitby. Walks can be taken on to the moors from the door. Goathland, alias 'Aidensfield' in the popular TV series 'Heartbeat' is only a short drive away and offers the chance of possibly seeing some filming.

Both the Parish Church and the Catholic Church are close to 'Inkwells' and a 20 minute walk down through the village will take you to the Methodist Church. The Riverside Garden Centre and tea rooms are well worth a visit. In the nearby village of Ruswarp, you will find Miniature golf, pitch and putt and a centre for hiring rowing boats. Whitby offers opportunities for sea-fishing and boat trips around the bay. Steam train enthusiasts will want to ride on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway - steam trains currently run from Pickering to Whitby and the villages of Goathland and Grosmont are well worth visiting.
