This is my home, but i am away so much i need to share my sanctuary-it i thatched cottage set in 7 acres of private wood and parkland on the south of the beautiful Otter valley in the Blackdown Hills, one of the UK’s finest ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’. It is close to the World Heritage Coastline. There is a chance this may be the most enchanting garden you will have ever visited. You may well wake up to find deer munching the flowers in the garden. Named by the owners for his Indian wife to remind her of the waterfall she often visited as a child near her school in Kodaikanal, India. The house has wifi and is equiped with extensive equipment and facilities. Short drive to the best owner recommended beaches of Lyme Regis (10 miles), Beer, Weston and Seatown. There is a rustic kitchen with food cooked in the Rayburn surprisingly good even for your old recipes!

Notes on accommodation
Bear Shola is a fun and warm house to stay with a great garden to explore, the greatest benefit is its proximity to the airports of London and Exeter, with a run to London taking 2 and a half hours on the A303 rather than the usual 5 hours to deeper Devon.

Outside
Huge garden with orchard, pond and fields with stone area around cottage for bar-b-que and play. Honiton the local town is stocked with Antique shops and a great range of food retailers. I highly recommend getting wine from Wine World in the High Street.

Coast/Beach
20 minutes drive to best local beaches. I prefer to go to Beer and Branscombe, which are such special little villages.

Golf
Next door to a 9 hole golf course.

Travel
25 mins to Exeter.
2-3 hours to Gatwick or Heathrow.
Car is essential.

Close to main road with good access.

Distances
The house is really tucked away in its own space -you will often find me gardening just in my wellies -so perfect if you want to get an all over tan!

In fact my neighbour who designed my extensions told me he had not seen the place for 15 years! We are 5 minutes to the local village of Upottery which has a fine pub and church. If I am going to the beach i usually go to Beer or Seatown -but always save up for a fab meal at Hix fish restaurant in Lyme Regis about 20 mins away.

Further details
The Blackdown Hills is a truly beautiful unspoiled part of Devon, and is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, 15 minutes to supermarket and town with wonderful array of local produce. I have several private woodlands and if you are interested in visiting them during your stay -let me know and i will send you their co-ordinates!

I love to explore Devon and can only encourage you too -take all the small lanes you will be stunned by the vistas that you come across and the quaint farms and villages from a bygone era.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
i fell in love with the amazing garden before even seeing the house -my first thought was - i can not believe someone has done so much here and is prepared to give it up it was under offer but i gave the full asking price to secure the deal later i found out that i had moved to this village like a homing pigeon -why because my great grandfather was born on the adjoining farm and my entire family did not even know it!

Unique benefits of the property
This really is your holiday home with a special emphasis on living naturally -we have our own well water and a Edenesque garden to enjoy
