The bungalow is semi-detached and has been sited to obtain maximum privacy. There is a southwest facing patio and sloping grassed area in front, bordered by mature trees. 1 Hillside has two bedrooms - one with a double bed and the other with twin divan beds. The bed settee in the lounge can accommodate a further two. There is a fully fitted kitchen with microwave and a bathroom with an electric shower over the bath. The bungalow is finished to a high standard with TV, Freeview and DVD in the lounge and wall-mounted heaters in all the rooms. Duvet covers and bed linen are provided for the main beds (but not the bed settee) and are freshly laundered each week. Electricity is supplied by card meter, with cards available at Reception.

Changeover day
Normally Saturdays, but other days are possible except during the high season. You are requested to arrive after 3 pm and to vacate the bungalow by 10 am on changeover days.

Notes on accommodation
Within Penstowe Manor is the Penstowe Sports and Leisure Club. Access to the Club is available to guests staying at 1 Hillside. No additional charge is made for entry, but there are small charges for use of the indoor pool and some of the sports facilties. Penstowe Sports and Leisure Club offers: heated indoor pool, 2 restaurants, cabaret suite with dance floor; 3 bars, live nightly entertainment (in the main season), takeaway, children’s entertainment, children’s club and activities; tennis; squash; badminton, amusements, pool tables, big screen satellite TV, indoor swimming pool, 3 indoor bowls rinks, outdoor heated pool and paddling pool, jacuzzi and sauna, massage and beauty treatment. There is a launderette on site with coin operated washers and dryers.
Outside
There is a southwest facing patio in front of the bungalow, for which we provide 2 folding chairs and a small table. Care has been taken with landscaping and special areas have been set aside for parking. This feature adds a measure of safety for children at play, while allowing easy access to the bungalow. The footpaths are lit at night.
Coast/Beach
The nearest beach is Sandymouth which is 3 km away. The coastal walks in the area are superb. There are many other safe clean sandy beaches and coves in the vicinity, with rock pools for children. And the beach is renowned for surfing. The whole coastline is environmentally protected.
Golf
There are several golf courses nearby, of which the closest are the Bude and North Cornwall and the Ivyleaf in Bude and the Holsworthy Golf Club,

Travel
Penstowe is easily reached using the North Devon Link A361/A39 from junction 27 of the M5 or via the A30 and Holsworthy. Kilkhampton is 8 km from Bude on the A39. It is adjacent to open countryside at the head of the lovely Coombe Valley. The site is well located for those planning a touring holiday in Devon and Cornwall. Dartmoor, Exmoor and all the Cornish and Devon resorts, including King Arthur's Tintagel and the picturesque village of Clovelly are within each reach.
Distances
Kilkhampton village is just five minutes walk. Bude is 7 km by road. The closest beach is Sandymouth, just over 5 minutes drive, with plenty of parking. A variety of other beaches are within 10-15 minutes drive.
Further details
Kilkhampton village is full of Cornish character and only a few minutes' walk from the bungalow. It has a Post Office, a couple of pubs and two food stores. The nearby town of Bude offers a wide range of shopping facilities and several eating places. It has a leisure centre, an 18 hole golf course and two large sandy beaches. The area offers excellent opportunities for golfing, horse-riding, fishing and of course, surfing, for which Bude is internationally famous. Less than 10 minutes drive are the 2 Tamar Lakes, which offer a variety of activities including watersports, angling, walking, cycling and relaxing.

About the owner
We have owned a bungalow at Penstowe for some 40 years and believe we have a good knowledge of what our guests need on holiday. We stay in the bungalow regularly as we enjoy the area, which has changed very little over the years. While there, we check that everything in the bungalow is working and replace items as necessary. We also invite holidaymakers to comment when they return the key. Although we do not live locally, we do have a helpful local representative who prepares the bungalow, and can be called on if there's a problem

Why the owner chose a home in this location
Our bungalow, which gets the afternoon sun, provides comfortable accommodation and is within easy reach of the Manor House (2-3 minutes walk, but out of sound!) and the Stable Inn, the takeaway and launderette in the Stable Block. We think 1 Hillside provides comfortable accommodation and is located within easy reach of a huge range of social, sporting and family amenities. The Penstowe site offers plenty to do in daytime and evenings within easy, safe walking distance. However, many of our guests simply use 1 Hillside as a place to relax and as a base for exploring Devon and Cornwall. In the bungalow we have DVDs, books, games and jigsaws.
Unique benefits of the property
Penstowe Park is large enough to offer many facilities not offered by smaller sites and where children in particular can use the pool (lifeguards are on hand for specified times of the day)
