Goonwinnow Farm comprises of four luxury cottages in a peaceful rural setting, each sympathetically converted from the original mill house and farm buildings. It is secluded yet not isolated, indeed we are only minutes from the A30 - from where one can explore Cornwall in any direction. Goonwinnow Farm is our family home, we love to welcome families and couples for relaxing, memorable holidays. With a games room, playing field, swings, hot tub and sauna there is plenty to do for all the family. For rainy days and evening entertainment each cottage has a selection of books, board games, WiFi and digital TV. We have a range of DVDs available on free loan. There are facilities for washing and drying wetsuits and a lockable shed for storing boards and bikes. The well equipped kitchens make self-catering easy, but if the cook fancies a night off there are plenty of restaurants in the locality - we can book your table and taxi for you!

Changeover day
July - September we accept weekly bookings only, starting Saturdays. Your cottage will be available from 3pm and we ask that you vacate it by 10am. Out of season short breaks are available at 70% - 80% of the weekly tariff for 3 or 4 nights respectively.

This cottage is reverse level design. On the upper floor (entry level) there is a large open-plan kitchen/dining/living room with electric cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave oven, washing machine, dishwasher and fully supplied with all other kitchen equipment needed. There is a pine kitchen table with 8 chairs, 3 settees, television, DVD player, CD player, WiFi, books and board games. A double bedroom and a shower room lead off this room, which is ideal for anyone who cannot cope with the stairs. Downstairs on the lower ground floor there are 3 bedrooms (two twin rooms and a king-size double with wash-hand basin), a shower room and a bathroom with over bath shower. A door leads out from the king-size room to the games room courtyard and hot tub. All bath and shower rooms are fully tiled and have electric shaver sockets. Heating is by oil fired central heating. Outside the cottage has its own barbeque, picnic table, lawn area, washing line and parking for 2-3 cars.

This cottage is reverse level design. Downstairs on the lower ground floor there are 3 bedrooms (a twin room, a king-size double and a standard double), a shower room and a bathroom with over bath shower. A door leads out from the double room to the games room courtyard and hot tub. All bath and shower rooms are fully tiled and have electric shaver sockets. Heating is by oil fired central heating. Outside the cottage has its own barbeque, picnic table, lawn area, washing line and parking for 2 cars.

The stable style front door leads into a spacious kitchen/diner, well equipped with electric oven, gas hob, microwave oven, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. There are two steps down to the dining area which has a large table, four chairs and a bookcase with books, WiFi, board games and a CD player. An archway leads from the dining area to the living room with two sofas, TV, DVD player and log burning stove. There are two bedrooms, a double and a twin (a cot will fit in either room) and a bathroom with a thermostatically controlled shower over-bath shower and glass screen patio doors open onto a small enclosed garden which is ideal for dogs and toddlers and a gate from the garden leads into a large playing field.

The open plan kitchen/dining/living room is all on one level. There is a electric cooker, microwave oven, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. Living room has a sofa, an armchair and a rocking chair. There is a wood-burning stove, television, DVD player, WiFi, CD player and a selection of books and board games. 2 settees, and wood-burner. Patio doors from this room lead out onto a raised decking with panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. There is a BBQ and patio furniture on the decking. Steps lead down from the decking into the playing field. The spacious bathroom as a bath and separate electric shower. There are two bedrooms, a king-size double and a twin. Please note that if both beds are in use it is not possible to have a cot in the twin room, but there is room for one in the double room.

 

Notes on accommodation
All cottages have full central heating, in addition The Stables and The Piggery have wood burning stoves. One well behaved small medium size dog is accepted in The Stables only (£20 per week). Dogs may not be left unattended in the cottages at any time. Please remember to poop scoop! All cottages and the games room are strictly non-smoking. All bedding (except cot bedding), bathmats and tea towels are included. Towel hire is available by pre-booking only at £4 per towel per week. All cottages have their own washing line and there is a shared tumble dryer in next to the games room. Cots and high chairs are available at no cost, but please reserve one at the time of booking. We regret we do not accept bookings from hen/stag parties or groups of young people under 21.

Accessibility
The Stables and The Piggery are both single level cottages with 2 steps to the front door and The Stables also has two internal steps. There are three wooden steps up to The Wheel and Mill Houses and both have a bedroom and a shower room on the entry level. Please phone us if you have any mobility problems, we are able to arrange hire of disability aids including wheel chairs and walking frames.

Outside
All cottages have their own garden areas with BBQ, picnic table, parking, washing line and lawn (except Piggery which has a decked area with steps down to the playing field). We own the three fields that surround the farm and you are welcome to wander in these. One of the fields is kept cut short for playing football, kites and picnics etc. There is some wooden play equipment for the under tens. The shared games room is very popular with many of our guests. It has a sauna (over 16s only), table football, a pool table, table tennis and a selection of Duplo, Lego and other toys. Our out-door hot tub is kept clean and warm for use all year round.

Coast/Beach
Its just a 10 min drive to our nearest beaches of Holywell and Crantock. Perranporth is a very popular family beach. Keen surfers and kiters will enjoy Fistral, Watergate and Gwithian beaches. There are many possibilities for days out in the area including quad-biking, go-karting, horse riding, skate-boarding, mountain-boarding and visits to National Trust properties, The Eden Project, The National Maritime Museum, Newquay Zoo, Lappa Valley Steam Railway, The Tate Gallery and many fun parks.

Golf
There are many golf courses in Cornwall. For beginners there is also 12 hole golf course a mile away which does not require handicap certificates.

Skiing
It only snows once in a blue moon in Cornwall! But there is an artificial ski slope in Plymouth, one hours' drive away. Plans have just been passed for construction of a ski slope locally so maybe one day! During October-February there is an ice skating rink at the Eden Project.

Travel
Nearest Train Station -Truro 7 miles. Nearest airport - Newquay 8 miles. It is possible to hire a car from the airport. Nearest bus stop - Mitchell half a mile. Because of its location and lack of public transport the use a car is essential when staying at Goonwinnow Farm.

Distances
We are between the villages of Mitchell (1/2 mile) and St Newlyn East (1¾ miles). Newquay and Perranporth are within 15 mins. Truro, Padstow and St Agnes are less than half an hour away. Falmouth, Penzance, Bude, St Ives and Lands' End are a bit further but nowhere in Cornwall is more than an hour away!

Further details
There is a pub/restaurant in Mitchell, half a mile away, but please note if you plan to walk there are no pavements and no lighting. St Newlyn East also has a pub/restaurant, a good family butcher, a post office (still open!) and a village store. There are supermarkets in Newquay (Morrisons) and Truro (Tesco and Sainsbury’s). You can order on-line at Tesco for delivery to Goonwinnow Farm (please let us know if you do so that we can watch out for the delivery van). The supermarkets all have ATMs and there are all main banks in Truro and Newquay.

Please phone or e-mail us if you would like to make a reservation. We will require a 25% deposit and the balance will be due 8 weeks before the commencement of the holiday. Payment can be made by cheque or internet banking. We regret we are unable to accept credit cards.
