This is an archetypal detached country cottage situated in a secluded hamlet which contains a rare Saxon chapel, close to Birdoswald Roman Fort, Hadrrian's Wall,and in easy range of the Lake District and southern Scotland. The cottage is 250 years old - built around the time Captain Cook was claiming Australia! Ideal for getting away from it all, fabulous country walks, local pubs etc. The things I love about my property are the seclusion and the fantastic scenery and views.
The church yard of the Saxon Chapel is reputed to contain the remains of the the real life character on which Sir Walter Scott based his character 'Meg Merrilees'.

Notes on accommodation
The property has solid fuel central heating which runs off the multifuel stove. This stays on 24/7 and needs tending only two or three times a day and keeps the house really cosy in the winter. It also has double glazing. The hamlet is in a cul de sac so is virtually traffic free apart from a handful of inhabitants and very safe for children.

There is a large garden which is mostly lawn and a large stone patio to the west with a built-in barbecue, patio table, armchairs and benches seating 6 and stunning views which are also visible from the French doors by which it is accessed.

Coast/Beach
The house is about 35 minutes from Ullswater and the north lakes and about 25 minutes from Dumfreishire. It is one mile from Birdoswald Roman Fort and Hadrian's Wall and 6 miles from the market town of Brampton.

Golf
Local Golf Courses in Greenhead ( Haltlwhistle Golf Club 3 miles away) and Brampton Golf Club (6 miles away).

Travel
The house is about 6 miles east of Brampton, 15 miles east of Carlisle, and 45 west of Newcastle on Tyne. It is about a mile away from the A69.

Distances
The House has a rare Saxon Chapel in the same hamlet. It is one mile from the Birdoswald Raman Fort, and Hadrian's Wall. It is one mile from Gilsland which has 3 pubs and a coffee house, and a village post office. It is 6 miles from Brampton which has many pubs, a bistro, take-aways, chip shops, banks etc. The north Lake District is about half an hour drive as are the borders.

Further details
There are many fabulous country walks on the doorstep and many more which are within 10 minutes drive. There is an RSPB Bird Sanctuary, about 15 minutes away as well as Talkin Tarn, which has boating etc, and all surrounded by glorious countryside in one of the least populated parts of England.
