Owner profile
About the owner
Our family have lived in the Midlands for the last 30 years in an old farmhouse with a large garden, but have recently moved to Malvern to a very new house with less land. We have always enjoyed old houses and this was one of the reasons for buying Lang Barn. My husband retired some time ago and now deals in books on the internet, which is why there are books in the house. We have furnished the house and equipped it as a home for our own use and not only as a rental property. Combeinteighead had proved to be a friendly village, welcoming both ourselves and our visitors, and including us in its many and varied activities. The village is part of "Village in Action" and this has inculded plays and musical events. The continual question is "When will you be moving down here permanently"?
Why the owner chose a home in this location
My husband and I bought Lang Barn 9 years ago as a house for our own use as well as a holiday let. One attraction was the warmer weather in the South West and the other the ease of access for us as we live in the Midlands. After leaving work it has been good to escape quickly into another world. We delight in coming down to this lovely village of thatched houses where you can walk to the pub for a meal and look at a totally dark sky filled with stars, no bright lights to ruin the view.
Unique benefits of the property
Lang Barn has been lived in by local people for centuries and we have recently been visited by someone who was evacuated there during the war. He was never allowed to go into "The best parlour" and was expected to wash under the pump in the yard!
As well as finding the local area delightful we continue to explore and find new places to visit. It has been easy to get up onto the moors to have a stiff walk as well as to the seaside. Our friends with small children have found Maidencombe a quiet retreat and a good place to swim.
