The well equipped cottages and Manor House provide an excellent base to travel around Devon and the South West. Close to excellent surfing beaches, several top golf courses, we are also in the centre of excellent walking country with the coastal path only is a short distance away. Sea fishing and fresh water fishing, not to mention the excellent cycle route called the Tarka Trail which stretches for miles throughout the countryside are close by.

Changeover day
Arrival 4pm and departure time 10am. Short breaks and weekend breaks are available except for July and August changeover day is Friday or Saturday depending on property.

Foxdown Manor is an elegant Victorian Manor house. Recently refurbished to a high standard with 7 large doubles (3 en-suite), 1 twin and 1 single bedroom. 2 family bathrooms, 1 cloakroom. Very large kitchen with beams and large six oven AGA. Utility room, 4 reception rooms, library and study.

Raleigh Cottage has a stone fireplace in the comfortable lounge and is well furnished with an up to date well equipped kitchen. There are two bedrooms on the first floor, one double and one twin. The bathroom has a bath with shower over and underfloor heating. The cottage has a DVD player and free view and is heated by electric radiators.

Frobisher Cottage was converted from the outbuilding attached to the Manor House sleeps up to 5 and has a large vaulted beamed ceiling in the lounge with some stone walls. There are two bedrooms, one double and one double with a single bed. DVD player and free view. We have more than one unit sleeping 5 so please contact the owners for availability.

Our smallest cottage set away from the courtyard with its own garden sleeps 2. It has a double bedroom with en-suite bathroom a well equipped kitchen in the kitchen/lounge diner. A comfortable cosy hideaway just big enough for two,

 

Notes on accommodation
Foxdown Manor Cottages have recently been refurbished to a high standard however have retained some of their original features. Guests are free to explore the grounds where there is an abundance of wildlife, birds (especially our peacocks), badgers and the occasional deer.
The outdoor heated swimming pool (Jul/Aug) is free to use when it is open and the tennis courts and croquet lawn are also free.
Electricity and heating costs are included in the price of the cottage. Highchairs, stair gates and cots are available at a small weekly charge. Towels are also available to hire.
Dogs are welcome (small charge) by arrangement.

Accessibility
Some of our cottages are on one level and therefore could be used by people with mobility problems. One cottage has wide doors and a ramp to the front door and a large bathroom however none of our cottages are fitted with walk in showers. Please phone us to enquire about suitability for wheelchair users.

Outside
The gardens are for everyone to use. There are a paddock and woods for to play in. Outside seating, picnic sets are provided for each cottage. BBQs are available for use by our guests. The heated outside pool which is open July and August available for all to use as is the tennis court and the croquet lawn. Equipment is provided. Heating is included, as is bedding. Towels, highchairs, cots and stair gates are available at a small charge.

Coast/Beach
The nearest beach is Westward Ho! approx 5 mins drive. There is a surf school as well as other beach activities available. Instow is less than a ten minute drive away and has a sandy beach with dunes and is perfect for a family day by the beach. Peppercombe is just off the main highway and after a ramble through the woods you come to a pebbly beach which is ideal for a beach BBQ.

Golf
There are several top golf courses within a few miles of the cottages. The Royal North Devon is one of England's oldest golf courses with a golf museum. There are around 12 other well established golf courses which cater for all tastes within a 30 mile radius of the cottages.

Special interest holidays
Our cottages would provide an excellent base for surfers, cyclist, golfers and walkers. Close by we have shooting, horse riding, fishing (fresh water and sea) there are also plenty of rivers for kayaking and rowing.

Travel
The nearest Airport is either Bristol or Exeter both about 50-60 miles away. The use of a car is necessary as we are in a very rural setting.

Distances
The nearest village is approximately one and half miles away. There are several supermarkets in Barnstaple and Bideford. Hartland Abbey and Clovelly (a small fishing village) are only ten minutes drive. RHS Rosemore is 15 minutes drive with several open gardens locally. Boats for Lundy Island leave from Bideford Quay. The Kathleen and May, a restored clipper is also moored at Bideford.

We have lived at Foxdown for 10 years and over that time have refurbished both the cottages and the Manor House. It is our aim to make sure that all our guests have a comfortable and enjoyable stay at Foxdown.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
North Devon is one of the most beautiful and picturesque parts of Britain. It has a selection of beautiful and diverse beaches, suitable for surfing, safe for swimming, rock pooling and fishing. There is an abundance of attractions and activities for all ages, including walking and cycling along the Tarka Trail, visiting RHS Rosemore, taking the Oldenburge to Lundy Island, visiting The Milky Way and The Big Sheep,our local theme parks. Taking surfing lessons at Westward Ho! or sailing lessons from Instow. Photography at Clovelly or clay pigeon shooting. Foxdown is set right in the heart of the rolling hills of Devon away from the hussle and bussle but only minutes from the A39 which is the main North Devon Coastal route which is ideal for vising North Devon and Cornwall.

Unique benefits of the property
Here at Foxdown we have 8 acres of gardens and woods. Ideal for the children to play in (beware of the stream!). The croquet lawn offers hours of competitive fun and the tennis court lets you try your hand at game, set and match! After a fun day at the beach why not have a game of water polo in the heated out door pool (July and August) or just have a BBQ and relax in the grounds. Dogs are welcome to stay at Foxdown (small charge) so you don't need to put then in kennels!
