Thiernswood Cottage is an outstanding holiday home for the family. It is a fully modernised, traditional Dales cottage, built in the middle of the 19th century and set in the grounds of Thiernswood Hall. It has its own enclosed garden and nestles under a wooded hillside and is approached by a tree lined drive one third of a mile long. The superior accommodation includes a spacious lounge, dining room, kitchen, entrance porch, two bedrooms, both with en-suite facilities. There is an open fire in the lounge. Hot water is provided by an immersion heater. Like all our family/large properties, a washer drier is installed. The post office, shops and pubs are two miles away at Reeth.

Changeover day
Our weekly changeover day is Saturday. Key collection: 4pm from Thiernswood Hall. Please vacate property: No later than 10.00am on day of departure.

Notes on accommodation
Hot water is provided by an immersion heater. A washer/drier is installed. Electricity is supplied by £1 coin operated meters. The first £5 of electricity is included in Thiernswood Cottage during the spring & summer. Heating is included during winter and autumn.

Distances
The post office, shops and pubs are two miles away at Reeth. Richmond is located at the foot of the Dale. We are surrounded by castles, waterfalls and spectacular countryside. We have a genuine operating Georgian theatre in Richmond. The Bowes Museum, The Green Howards Regimental Museum, and the Dales Museum are all close by as is The Wensleydale Creamery and Theakstons and Black Sheep breweries.

The area is essentially walking country and you will find much to enjoy as you tramp the heather moors, ford the streams or pause to admire the handiwork of dry stone wall builders.
Reeth is the main village in the centre of the Dale. It has a large village green surrounded by stone built houses, country shops, pubs and tea shops. In the nearby village of Low Row you will be able to visit a working farm. Hazel Brow Farm is an ideal day out, especially for younger children. Richmond is located at the foot of the Dale and boasts an impressive castle with a fine Norman Keep. It is also home of the Royal Georgian Theatre which is over 200 years old. The Green Howards Museum commemorates the origins of the oldest regiment in the British Army. In Upper Swaledale, the unique Butter Tubs Pass leads through to Wensleydale.

About the owner
Swaledale Cottages is a small family run business which has been in existence since 1977. Over those years we have had several properties in different locations in the Dales and now proudly offer three cottages in lovely locations in or near the village of Healaugh (nr.Reeth) in Swaledale. We have a policy of continuous improvement so all of our cottages are both pristine and well equipped. The three properties cater for 2, 4 and 6 people and we have moved towards en-suite facilities. Although all our cottages are 4 Star perhaps the best measure of the satisfaction of our customers is the large number of customers who return again and again. We have customers who have been coming to our cottages every year for the past 20 years and now children of customers are bringing their loved ones.
