Local sandy beaches with rock pools and famous for surfing are Bossiney Cove (1.5 miles) reached by a steep, rocky path but well worth the walk and Trebarwith Strand (2.5 miles), Polzeath (14 miles), Widemouth bay (14.5 miles) and Bude (17 miles). Many beaches have lifeguards on duty from May-September. Surf schools are present at school holidays and weekends.

Airports: Newquay (21 miles), St Austel (30 miles), Exeter (56 Miles), Bristol (100 miles). The nearest railway station is Bodmin Parkway (17 miles). Chaffcutter is within walking distance of the amenities of Tintagel and many pleasant country and coastal walks can be made from the cottage but to fully explore the surrounding area a car or bicycle is advisable.
Distances
Legendary Tintagel, our nearest centre (1.1m), can be reached by road or public footpath across fields and has a good range of shops, delicatessen and coffee shop, tourist information, doctor’s surgery, post office, ATM, pubs and restaurants along with the spectacular Tintagel Castle, Merlin’s cove and headland. Trebarwith Stand (2.5 miles) with beach, rook pools, and surf school also has small cafe and shop and an excellent pub/restaurant overlooking the coast to relax and enjoy the sunset.
Further details
Ideally situated for walking the Cornish Coastal Path and Bodmin Moor, we have availability for June 27th - July 11th when you get the benefits of early Summer weather, low rental prices and beat the crowds!
Cycling the Camel Trail combines fantastic views with exercise. Weekly parking tickets are available at the Tourist Information Centre in Tintagel and are acceptable in all North Cornish County Council Parks.
Boat trips run from Newquay to the Isles of Scilly. Historic monuments houses and gardens nearby include Launceston Castle, The Lost Garden of Heligan and Lanhydrock House & Garden. The Eden Project, Bodmin & Wenford Steam Railway provide great family days as an alternative to a day on the beach and are all in easy driving distance for a day out from Chaffcutter cottage.
Boscastle (2.5 miles north) and Port Isaac (10 miles south) are two of Cornwall’s attractive small harbour villages. Port Isaac with its rock-pools and picturesque narrow streets, is still a working harbour where you can buy freshly caught fish and crabs.
Padstow, a bustling town and fishing harbour with famous restaurants, sandy beaches, ferry across the river to Rock, walks and cycle route along the Camel estuary to Wadebridge, is 22 miles to the south. Cycles are available for hire in Wadebridge. Thinking of an Autumn break to make the most of the weather - then check our availability.
