Wyck Beacon is a large country house, set in more than 2 acres of gardens, in the heart of the Cotswold’s rolling countryside. Despite the tranquil setting, the house is only 3 miles from the beautiful market towns of Stow-on-the-Wold and Bourton-on-the-Water, and is a short drive or cross-country walk from The Feathered Nest Country Inn, winner of the AA Pub of the Year (England) 2011. The house dates back approximately 70 years and has been beautifully decorated and furnished, with many character features, including real fires in both the living and dining rooms, wood panelling and antique furniture. The grand dining room, with its chandeliers and beautiful period table and chairs, is a particular feature of the house, perfect for both formal and informal dining. Complementing these character features, the house has modern facilities, including wireless internet access, satellite TV and a state of the art, integrated TV and music system.

Further details

Location Information: The Rissingtons: There are four Rissington villages located close to each other: - Wyck Rissington: The village name translates from the Saxon as “A building of special significance on a hill covered with brushwood”. It is a small village, with a number of attractive traditional-style Cotswold stone dwellings. In the early 1890s composer Gustav Holst, at the age of 17, was the resident organist for the church - the organ that Holst played is still in use; - Great Rissington: Home to the ever popular “Lamb Inn”, Great Rissington is another small village, with many attractive Cotswold stone cottages; - Little Rissington: The village is forever associated with RAF Litttle Rissington, a Second World War and Cold War air base located close by. The main attraction is the 12th century church, which lies apart from the village up a short path. There is some element of mystery in the church's location, as it seems that in the Middle Ages the village was clustered about the church, however, for an unknown reason, the village moved away from the church, leaving it exposed and somewhat isolated on its hilltop overlooking Bourton. The church is small, composed of a nave, north aisle, and sanctuary. At the west end, the last pillar supporting the nave roof is canted at an alarming angle. The interior is simple, almost plain, yet very appealing. The West window contains modern stained glass, showing aeronautic symbols in memory of the RAF servicemen from the base, who lost their lives during the Second World War. Outside the church to the east is a moving memorial to those men; neat rows of plain white headstones ranged about a tall cross. - Upper Rissington: The village is situated next to the site of RAF Little Rissington (now used for glider training) and much of its housing was built as officers' quarters. There is a small shop in the village. The Cotswolds: The Cotswolds are a range of hills in west-central England, sometimes called the 'Heart of England'. The name Cotswold means 'sheep enclosure in rolling hillsides”. The Cotswolds are characterised by attractive small towns and villages, built of the underlying Cotswold stone (a yellow oolitic limestone). In the Middle Ages the wool trade made the Cotswolds prosperous and some of this money was put into the building of churches, leaving the area with a number of large handsome Cotswold stone 'wool churches'. The area remains affluent, which has encouraged the establishment of many high quality pubs, restaurants and antique shops. Cotswold towns include Bourton-on-the-Water, Broadway, Burford, Chipping Norton, Cirencester, Moreton-in-Marsh, Northleach, Stow-on-the-Wold, Stroud and Winchcombe. The town of Chipping Campden is notable for being the home of the Arts and Crafts movement, founded by William Morris at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. William Morris lived occasionally in Broadway Tower, a folly, now part of a country park. Chipping Campden is also known for the annual Cotswold Olimpick Games, a celebration of sports and games dating back to the early 17th century. The Cotswolds is the largest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in England and Wales. Whilst the beauty of the Cotswold AONB is intertwined with the villages that seem to almost grow out of the landscape, the Cotswolds were primarily designated as an AONB for the rare limestone grassland habitats as well as the old growth beech woodlands that typify the area. These habitat areas are also the last refuge for many other flora and fauna with some so endangered they are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. The uniqueness and value of the Cotswolds is engendered in the fact that five European Special Areas of Conservation, three National Nature Reserves and over 80 Sites of Special Scientific Interest are contained within the Cotswold AONB.
