This is a stone built property dating back to the 17th century but fully refurbished with wood and slate floors, gas fired central heating & double glazing throughout. Originally it was part of the old Red Lion Coaching Inn, the cottage sits adjacent to the superb real ale haven that is The Old Poets Corner with hops, beams and open fires the 'perfect' country pub. Also close by is the quaint Ashover Brewery. Step out of the door to see beautiful views and walk footpaths along the river Amber and Ashover Light Railway trail down to Ogston reservoir. Ashover won the prestigious Calor Village of the Year competition in 2005 but many other places of interest are only a short drive away, Chatsworth, Bakewell, Matlock, Crich & Chesterfield for starters.

About the owner
The picture is of us a few years ago (2006) receiving one of the many awards for our 1st pub The Old Poets Corner in Ashover. We both lived in Derbyshire for almost all of our lives and for the last eight years we've been in and around Ashover. Our place of residence now is just down the road from the main village, alongside the Ogston Reservoir and there we intend to stay. The children have all fled the nest now so it's just us and the three cocker spaniels left to walk the beautiful countryside (peace at last). Our workload has increased since the photo was taken, we now operate another three pubs and we're partners in Ashover Brewery. Our office is still at the Old Poets though, so if you book with us for the cottage or B&B we will probably see you at some time during your stay.
Year purchased: 2004
Why the owner chose a home in this location
We had been at the pub for two years when the cottage came up for sale and couldn't resist buying it. This is a wonderful traditional Derbyshire village on the edge of the Peak District and winner of the Calor village of the year award for good reason. Situated in the rural Amber valley with miles and miles of footpaths and lovely views all around, you only have a 10 minute drive to Matlock or Chesterfield for shopping. In the village are three good pubs (one is ours) a post office, newsagent, butchers, tuck shop and Doctor's surgery. Ashover is a peaceful place but there is plenty going on if you look for it. Pick your week for beer festivals, shows, music festivals, concerts and lots of outdoor activities. The locals are really friendly too.
Unique benefits of the property
The cottage has a four poster bedroom, bathroom with underfloor heating, jacuzzi bath and separate shower. Sky TV in the lounge and kitchen which has a large cooking range, dishwasher and American style fridge freezer. You are only a few paces from the Old Poets Corner, which boasts 10 real ales, 7 traditional ciders, fruit wines and single malts and if you choose not to cook, breakfast is served from 8:30 (please book) and home cooked food is served every lunch and evening. The Ashover micro brewery is also adjacent and you are most welcome to call in and see how beer is brewed or spend a day brewing yourself by prior arrangement. Nearby attractions are Chatsworth House, Crich Tramway Village, Heights of Abraham, Arkwrights Mills, Crooked Spire, Bakewell pudding shop...ad infinitum-ish.
