Tasteful and comfortable, the flat has stunning views over the harbour and the bay to Godrevy Lighthouse. Whether you want galleries or shops, walking or surfing, pubs or restaurants, St. Ives has it all! With the arrival of The Tate and Eden Project, Cornwall and especially St. Ives is now very much a year round destination. Accessibility
The property is in the heart of a maze of cobbled pedestrian walkways and as such has no parking. However, the Island carpark is just a short walk away. Unloading and loading can be achieved 20 meters away either below on the harbour front or above in Island square. Flat 3 is accessed via a narrow twisting staircase and may not be appropriate for guests with compromised mobility.
Coast/Beach
5 stunning beaches are less than 5 minutes walk away. Since the £100m 'Clean Sweep' scheme for Mount's Bay, St. Ives and Hayle, the West Cornwall area can boast probably the cleanest bathing waters in Western Europe. Our award-winning beaches at Porthminster and Porthmeor have been given European Blue Flag and Tidy Britain awards for several years. As a result West Cornwall beaches easily conform to the European Commission's stringent guidelines.
Travel
Nearest airport is Newquay. Nearest main line railway station is St. Earth, on the Paddington/Penzance line with a wonderful small coastal branch line connection to St. Ives. St. Ives is just 5 minutes drive from the A30 trunk road making the major cities of Exeter (2 hours approx.), Bristol (3 hours approx.) and London (5 hours approx.) easily accessible.
Distances
Penzance approx. 15 minutes drive. Lands End approx. 30 minutes drive. Truro approx. 40 minutes drive. Eden project approx. 60 minutes drive. Lost Gardens of Heligan approx. 50 minutes drive. But why leave St. Ives!
Further details
A mild climate, warmed by the gulf stream and almost frost-free winters makes it possible to grow plants and shrubs normally native to semi-tropical countries hundreds of miles further south, certainly contributing to the reason why St. Ives regularly wins the 'Britain in Bloom' competition. As well as its tradition of fishing, St. Ives is world famous as an art centre and studios, shops and galleries are everywhere. The Tate St. Ives, part of the Tate Gallery in London, was opened in 1993 and is, rightly, the flagship of Cornish art. The Gallery's inspirational building stands high above the magnificent surfing beach of Porthmeor and features exhibitions which represent the modern 'St. Ives School' of painters such as Peter Lanyon, Patrick Heron and Sir Terry Frost as well as a changing programme of other contemporary work. Also part of the Tate Gallery is the Barbara Hepworth Museum, a lasting memorial to the great sculptress who lived and worked in St. Ives at her Trewyn Studio. Take a leisurely walk along some of the miles of coastal footpath, perhaps to Lelant and soak up the sounds and images of the mythical and rugged land. Take the opportunity to return by branch line train along what has been described as one of the most spectacular railway journeys in Britain as the track hugs the edge of the cliff in a spectacular feat of Victorian engineering. Enjoy the view across to Godrevy Lighthouse, immortalised by the novelist Virginia Woolf, or take a short boat trip to watch seals basking on the rocks in the sunshine. St. Ives has something that will appeal to everyone, young or old.
