Owner profile

Heather and Anthony Callaway - villa owners

About the owner
We have owned the house since it was built in 2010 and it is our home in the Isle of Wight, in an area of outstanding natural beauty. We enjoy the house ourselves and whenever possible, take our children, grandchildren, parents and friends there. It is an ideal family house having plenty of space inside and out. It has all the modern conveniences, 4 bedrooms and 3 bathroom/shower rooms with extremely high end fixtures and fittings. The communal gardens are ideal for children and there are play and BBQ areas next to the bistro and bar. My husband and I both work in London. I am a publisher and Anthony is a lawyer, so time away is precious. We have made the house as comfortable as possible for vacations - our home from home.

Year purchased: 2010

Why the owner chose a home in this location
The house is in an idyllic position, with unobstructed views of the marina and Medina river. The house has its own mooring and we often sail to the house. The communal areas are fun and there is an area of grass leading off from the house. The Isle of Wight is wonderful, with its beautiful beaches, unrivalled countryside and the most sunshine per year in England. We enjoy the villa ourselves and whenever possible, take our children, grandchildren, parents and friends there. It is an ideal family house having plenty of space inside and out and patios and balconies leading off from the main rooms. My husband and I both work in London. I am a publisher and Anthony is a lawyer, so time away is precious. We have made the house as comfortable as possible for vacations - our home from home.

Unique benefits of the property
Island Harbour is close to the main town of Newport (a footpath leads to the town), the world renowned Cowes and all the ferry port. It's also great for bike rides. If you bring your boat then there is a chandlery which has basic food supplies and newspapers. The bistro is on site, open throughout the day and offering snacks and meals. The bar is well frequented by residents, guests and boaties. Weekends tend to be lively and there is a camp site (small) and BBQ area for communal use. If you want a stroll, then the Folly Inn (where you dance on the tables on Saturday evenings) is along the towpath. The house has all the mod cons, is extremely well fitted out. There is no rushing on the Island - it is a step back to the 50s and a wonderful reminder of how good life can be.
