A local steam railway puffs from Kingswear to Paignton and back and the local market offers everything from fudge to locally made cheese. It is host to many events such as Dartmouth's Musical festival and Regatta week.

Travel
Excellent communications are key component in its success as a regional holiday centre. The M5 runs directly to Exeter, just 30 miles to Dartmouth, and then it's an easy drive on the main A380 into the town. Both Exter and Plymouth are rail termini offering direct links throughout the UK. There are regular services from London with a fastest journey time of a little over 2 hours. There are also direct services from nearby Totnes to London. Nearest airports are Exter and Plymouth.

Slapton Sands 5 miles. Plymouth 20 miles (Aquarium) and Plymouth Hoe, good shopping. Torquay 8 miles via ferry.
